Delighted (the right word for a Crime / Horror film?) to provide as part of Jehan Stefan Service team to Herdís Stefánsdóttir for the highly anticipated M. Night Shyamalan , out tomorrow in UK .

The is loosely inspired by Operation Flagship, an elaborate 1985 sting operation by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Fugitive Investigative Strike Team, where F.I.S.T. invited over 5,000 fugitives to a faked American Football game.

I can confirm that no string instruments were harmed in the performance of all the , unsettling required during the of the . 😬🤣

It's taken me almost four years to reach this point. A lot of hard work and determination has made this possible. This album consists of completely original music written by myself, arranged by Paul Campbell, and performed by the Ulster Orchestra. I also had the pleasure of mixing this album, something I love doing.
I know some people roll their eyes and think, 'Phil, get back to making some techno.' Weirdly, I still think of this as 'techno,' a bit like punk music. For me, the most interesting stuff develops over time, like punk developing into post-punk and its experimental offshoots. I think it's important not to stick to one idea for too long and keep trying new things. Seeing something grow from small sketches and brainstorms into something on this scale gives me great joy, and it's challenges like this that keep me going.
I'd like to express my huge thanks to Patrick McCarthy for making this possible. The Ulster Orchestra has been very good to me, and I hope to work with them a lot more in the future. Also, thanks to The Strand Arts Centre for providing me with a creative home for the last five years.
I would love it if you could please take a moment to check the link for various ways of checking the album, you can watch the full visual show on YouTube, just follow the link here.

Time to let the cat out of the bag:

my Game of Thrones medley is to make its proms debut at this sold out event Monday bank holiday August 28th.

The 8 minute piece was licensed by Hal Leonard/Universal publishing recently and will be played by our friends at the BBC concert orchestra.

It’s always an honour (and definitely never routine) to have a chart played at the proms and this is a big deal for me.

Studio orchestrations have been very honoured to have opportunities to contribute and collaborate for the proms (as well as proms in the park in various cities). Business partner Paul Campbell’s Auld lang syne is now played annually at every Last night of the proms, he also had a couple of charts commissioned and played in the 2018 folk prom and we both worked on the opening 5 Argentinian tangos of the inaugural Tango prom the same year so we have much to be thankful to the BBC music and proms teams for.

With choir and orchestra (and even some quartertones) this GOT medley however is my largest and most ambitious project for the proms to date and will be played on both radio and TV.

If you have a chance or a moment, please do check it out….. (and Paul’s Auld Lang Syne a couple of weeks after that).

Encounter music from The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and other titles in a Prom celebrating soundtracks from the worlds of film, TV and gaming.

A little impromptu Brahms 2, and why not.

Spielberg cheers on the film legend, as he plays a Brahms concerto at the piano.

Happy birthday indeed. What a legend ….. and even played folk violin for Billy Joel on Downeaster Alexa.

One of a number of projects Paul Campbell and John Langley brokered over the Autumn 2021, this one for the Ulster Orchestra transmitted on BBCNI on NYE.

Paul was due to do the brunt of it but in the end he got too busy with other film/TV scoring projects so John ended up adapting, reducing and arranging from scratch a bundle of charts from Back to the future, Titanic, Game of Thrones, Your Highness. Paul wrote lovely charts from Line of Duty and Belfast.

All in all a really nice progam presented by Eamonn Holmes celebrating the huge amount of filming activity and influence that Northern Ireland has enjoyed over the past few years. A pleasure to work with the Ulster Orchestra once again under the calm and ever generous stewardship of conductor David Brophy.

A bit of a self-shout out today for John L.

New WNO PlayOpera went live this morning featuring a brand new orchestration of Dance of the unborn chicks from Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussourgsky by me.

The brief was to go back to the original piano version and avoid going anywhere near the Ravel orchestration since it s still (bizarrely) copyright in the USA and would need licensing, so this was great fun to re-invent and rediscover.

Huge thanks as always to Georgina Graves Govier at WNO for her loyalty in using SO to create these orchestral reduction commissions, little and often, throughout the past year. They are always fun to write and to hear played so brilliantly by the WNO orchestra.

We have another one in the melting pot already for later in the year but do enjoy this lovely little gem in the meantime.
