THE DECLINE THAT SPARES NOTHING (An excerpt from the book MUMEx - A New Sound Cosmology by Louis Siciliano)
In the history of humanity, every era has left an indelible mark through its cultural and artistic wonders. From the Egyptian pyramids to Gothic cathedrals, from the works of Leonardo da Vinci to the avant gardes of the twentieth century, each period helped define the identity and the aesthetic sense of humankind. Yet, in the contemporary era, it seems that we have entered an age characterized by the pervasive presence of the Fake, which has degraded our culture and society.
The phenomenon of the Fake has reached alarming proportions in our society. Music, once an authentic and inspiring art, has been contaminated by the production of tracks devoid of originality and deep meaning, not to mention numbers that are completely fabricated. Likes are bought by the piece, and much dirty money is laundered through entertainment, giving strong support to, to say the least, dubious figures. Works of art have become fertile ground for repetition and imitation, with artists devoted to copies and remakes of past works, thus depriving art of its authenticity and originality, and of the research that is the very essence of the civil growth of a people.
In the world of cinema, we witness an abundance of remakes of past films, often devoid of creativity and originality. This phenomenon reflects contemporary society’s obsession with what has already been seen and already experienced, at the expense of innovation and the creation of new meaningful works.
Finance and politics are not immune to this tendency of the Fake. Finance is dominated by a culture of speculation and fraud, in which market manipulation and the creation of speculative bubbles have become common practices. Governments, in turn, are often characterized by false speeches and promises, not to mention authoritarian impositions dictated only by the thirst for power and money of politicians, which fuel citizens’ mistrust and undermine the stability of democratic institutions.
The era of the Fake has profoundly influenced contemporary philosophy. The emphasis is often placed on appearance and superficiality, at the expense of the search for truth and deep knowledge. Society has turned into a virtual reality in which fiction and falsity seem to prevail over what is authentic and genuine. And we are not even talking about the world of information. By now we are at the mercy of political and financial currents that impose their Truth on their employees, journalists.
Someone in the last century said, so it is if you think so, yet the real drama is that ours is not a theatrical performance, but the daily reality of millions of people.
We are what we eat. And if we feed the brain and the Soul with garbage, sooner or later we become the garbage with which we are literally massacring the planet and our younger brothers, the animals.
The pervasive presence of the Fake in our culture and society represents a significant challenge for humanity. It is important to recognize and understand the dangers of this tendency, which undermines our ability to distinguish truth from fiction and distances us from the pursuit of beauty and authenticity. It is necessary to promote a culture based on integrity, originality, and authenticity, so as to preserve the value of art, culture, and knowledge in their purest state.
Facing the era of the Fake requires a collective commitment to promote transparency, honesty, and the search for truth. We must resist cultural homogenization and superficiality, and seek to reconnect with our authentic essence. Only through a return to authenticity can we hope to overcome the dangers of the Fake and build a society that is more aware, creative, supportive, and open to Joy.
