Kevin Mench on Pudge and Beating The Shift
As spring training ramps up and we start to see the impact of baseball’s new rules changes, here’s Kevin Mench talking about how his former teammate, Pudge Rodríguez would have tackled the modern defensive shifts addressed by the new changes. He also relates it to golf (and, it just so happens, Pudge loves golf). We wonder - if hitting coaches just taught their charges to use all fields like Pudge did, would it eliminate the need to legislate shifts away?
This is an excerpt from an interview we conducted for a documentary about Texas Rangers and MLB icon Iván Rodríguez. He's a Baseball Hall of Famer and one of top catchers to ever play. Rush Olson from Mint Farm Films can be seen at the beginning of the video posing the question to Kevin.

Derian Hatcher On The Impact Of The Stars' Cup Win
The Dallas Stars will induct Derian Hatcher into their Hall of Fame this weekend, and it got us thinking about the team’s impact. As we’ve worked on our documentary about Ed Belfour, we’ve examined his accomplishments with an eye to the big picture. When Ed and the Stars won the Stanley Cup in 1999, it had a ripple effect on the region, the state, and even the country. In this video, the first American-born captain to skate the Cup explains how what he, Ed, and their teammates did made a lasting impact.
This interview excerpt came as part of a longer session conducted for the documentary on which Mint Farm Films is working on Ed Belfour’s life and career.

The Ongoing Story Of An Iconic Bob Lilly Photo
In the course of making a documentary, sometimes we find good stories we didn’t know existed, and sometimes they actually get added to during the process - even if their beginnings lie some 60 years ago. This is one of those stories - about Bob Lilly.
You can bid on the piece July 16 at the Lakewood Country Club during the Exchange Club’s Ticket To Ride, An Evening With The Morning Musers event. George Dunham, Craig Miller, and Gordon Keith from Sportsradio 96.7 & 1310 The Ticket will supply the evening’s entertainment. The auction also features a similar piece Brad did with Lee Roy Jordan, Bob’s former Cowboys teammate. The evening’s raffle will fund an endowment for the club’s James T. “Brad” Bradley Scholarship Fund.

Napoleon Maxwell on His Return to CGS
On last year’s College Gridiron Showcase program, we met Napoleon Maxwell, a running back out of Florida International University who overcame two ACL tears to get a shot with the Bears. He returned to CGS this year, and this video updates his story. See more stories like Napoleon’s in the San Diego market this Sunday at 3pm when the 2021 show runs (for the second year in a row) on FOX 5 San Diego.
BIG3 Powers Up At The AAC
For a league that’s only been in existence since 2017, the BIG3 has made a lot of amazing memories (and played some superb basketball). So when Nancy Lieberman told us that they were moving games to our home area this weekend, we made this quick video to remind us of some local awesomeness that happened here not too long ago.
Tickets are on sale at big3.com/tickets - the event starts this Saturday at 2pm at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
As a relevant aside, you’ll notice some shots of the Nancy Lieberman Charities Dream Ball in the video - go to NancyLiebermanCharities.org to buy your table for that event coming up September 11!

The NBRPA Powering The Vote
Former ABA player Willie Davis made a compelling case for voting at the recent POWER OF THE VOTE event - his words about his partially segregated college experience are especially impactful. Davis heads the The National Basketball Retired Players Association - Dallas Chapter, and he and Maceo Baston attended the event, hosted by the DeDe McGuire Foundation, the Power To Give Foundation, and K104 Fm at @Klyde Warren Park.
