Her music is a fusion of Indian vocals with Carnatic roots and R&B
She says, “The album is an ode to my Desi R&B sound, including samples from Devdas and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, but also Hindi lyricism and Indian sounds that I crafted myself.”
Naperville brought up Sanjana Nayak who goes by the name SANJ in music circles is just out with her new album. SANJ trained in Indian classical music for two decades and her music reflects it. She told her Hi India, about her music, “It is silky Indian vocals that tap into my two decades of classical music training, and sultry R&B flows inspired by songs that I grew up listening to. Over the past year, I’ve been posting music mashups of my favorite Bollywood songs on TikTok mixed with a variety of Western artists, while also performing in dozens of live shows and working on original music.”

MUSICAL BEGINNINGS
She also says that music has been a passion for her and adds, “This body of work is definitely a passion project, as I feel it is the culmination of all my training and creative work over the past several years. I believe it pushes the boundaries of traditional fusion music, but also highlights my creative ethos in a way I haven’t tapped into before.” She adds, “The album is an ode to my Desi R&B sound, including samples from Devdas and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, but also Hindi lyricism and Indian sounds that I crafted myself

SANJ grew up training in Carnatic style of vocals since she was 4. She says, “I think growing up listening to soundtracks from Veer Zaara, Devdas, and more were my initial inspiration for truly enjoying music as both a listener and a musician. But on the other end, I also was inspired by the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Mary J Blige, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Trey Songz, and Coldplay when I was young as well.

Talking about growing up in Chicago suburbs, SANJ says, “I was born in Jacksonville, FL, then lived in Richmond for 10 years, and finally moved to the suburbs of Chicago when I was in the 5th grade.

Pilot Project to Stamp H-1B Visas within US to Start in Summer 2023

State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Nancy Jackson made the announcement

During a meet with Indian American community leaders

The pilot project on domestic renewal of work permit visas has been named PHILEO

H-1B and other work visas like L-1 have dealt with the challenge of traveling out of the US to get their visa stamped even after the petition has been approved. This rule has historically caused a lot of hardships for work visa holders. But this may be changing as early as this summer. The US State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Nancy Jackson said during a discussion in Silicon Valley with Indian American community leaders that the pilot project that had been announced by the US recently to stamp the non-immigrant work permit visas, including the H-1B, in the US, instead of applicants having to travel back to India for it would start in the summer of 2023.

For a long time, Indian films have always made an impact on international film festivals. While Bollywood and South Indian films continue to captivate the audience. Not many may know that the regional film industry is also flourishing and bringing out some great movies to watch.

One such regional industry is the Gujarati Films, which are up and coming in a big way. Many regional Gujarati directors and story writers are coming up with works of such stellar quality that it definitely deserves a broader platform to showcase. It was this thought that led to the conceptualization of Vadilal International Film Festival (IGFF).
Founder of IGFF, Kaushal Acharya, on why he thought of this unique concept, says “Well, Gujaratis remain one of the biggest NRI communities in the US and even across the globe. I felt that even though a lot of good work is being done in Gujarati cinema, enough of it was not reaching the overseas markets and people needed to see how successful their own regional films can be if given the right platform.”

This will be the fourth edition of the festival which made its debut in 2018 in NJ. The Chicago edition will be hosted by the largest media and event company www.hiindia.com. The festival which will be held from June 23-25 is already being chalked out as one of the most anticipated events for a lot of desis in America. The festival will see some of the biggest names in Gujarati film industry coming to Chicago. Renowned Gujarati actors, directors, writers and theatre personalities will be a part of this extravaganza. A high-octane red-carpet event, the first of its kind for any regional Indian cinema will be the highlight of the event in Chicago. For movie buffs it will be a time to get up close and personal with their favorite stars as Q&A sessions, master classes and film bazaar will bring together both filmmakers and film lovers in a close setting.

Watch out for some of the most promising film screenings showcasing the gems of Gujarati cinema. It’s also a time for aspirants to get their talent noticed as master class and talent hunt for new Gujarati films would also be held.
