It was such a pleasure meeting and talking to Adam Cooper Official earlier today about music, choreography, and the challenges of singing and dancing, among other things. Thank you so much for your time!

Many thanks also to the staff at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre for making us feel so welcome and providing the lovely Ambassador Lounge for us to record in!

I don't usually post about what I do outside of the podcast but I had a wonderful time last night seeing King Lear in London with two guests of the podcast Daniel and Emily Pailthorpe.

Academy Award winner Kenneth Branagh has directed a chamber adaption that is immediate and primal, with the influence of his film work so evident, while his performance as Lear is thought-provoking, poignant and eloquently enunciated (à la Laurence Olivier) together with stellar supporting performances from a young, vibrant company of RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) graduates.

It's the final week of sold-out performances so you'll have to go to New York (for US listeners!) to see this moving chamber adaption at The Shed in autumn 2024.

Ep. 72: Emily Pailthorpe

Emily Pailthorpe is an internationally renowned oboist who also practises as a psychotherapist, seeing clients for the NHS and at The Door clinic in Chiswick as well as online in private practice. I spoke to Emily in June when we talked about her versatile work in oboe playing and psychotherapy, and how both areas relate to each other. This led us to talk about a range of topics such as the healing power of music, mental health and wellbeing, breathwork, and two pieces that Emily has recorded for her YouTube channel: Britten’s Six Metamorphoses after Ovid and an instrumental reinterpretation of Vaughan Williams’s great art song, Silent Noon. These two works speak to the psyche and the great emotive sway music has on both player and listener.
