Why Do Shias Mourn in Muharram?

Ever wondered, why do Shia Muslims mourn in Muharram?

Actually Muharram is not a festival but it is a day to remember the great sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (S).

Yes you may have heard the name "Imam Hussain" or "Hussain" many times before but do you know about his sacrifice for which he is remembered?

Imam Hussain (A) stood against the tyrant ruler of his time Yazeed who was filling the world with cruelty and inhumanity.

Then Hussain (A) stood against him and was brutally killed in the desert of Karbala with 3 days of thirst and hunger along with his children and companions.......even his 6 month old baby was killed with an arrow when he asked water for this baby.

He was harassed and tortured in every possible way....but he was always patient and stood firmly against all the unjust and unlawful things.

He is the most oppressed ever.
His body was trampled by the horses and his body was left for 3 days under the sun without any shroud and grave along with his children's amd companions'.
His sister,wife and daughters were made captives and his house was burnt.

But this man never compromised with the injustice, cruelty, inhumanity and agreed to be killed in the most oppressive way.

Shouldn't a man with kind heart, remember this great sacrifice of Imam Hussain who was really a hero who taught every human in this world the courage to stand against the
cruelty, injustice, inhumanity, oppression, deprivation ?

That's why you will see Shia Muslims having mourning sessions, chanting "Haye Hussain" remembering that great man Imam Hussain (A).
And Muharram is really all about remembering and mourning over the sacrifice of this great legend.

Imam Khomeini (R.A) said-
"Muharram is a month that the justice has stood against the oppression and the truth has stood against the falsehood. And it has proved during the history that; the truth has been overcoming the falsehood."
