Friends, this is a real photo taken on May 10. We are sharing this at the urgent request of Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and with hope you will help us avoid having to send rescue teams for you. “People in this photo are standing on 1800-feet of snow-covered AIR. This spot, just west of Monitor Ridge, is most frequented by climbers. A giant cornice forms every year at summit & can release any time. Do not trust tracks already present! It is tempting to go to the edge, but the actual rim edge may be as much as 20 feet below and 20 feet back from the apparent rim edge. Regardless of where you see footprints, the cornice is dangerous, especially after new snow fall or during warmer periods like we are now experiencing.”

This weekend brings an increase of hot weather for the whole state followed by the risk of thunderstorms. After such cool weather, we all might not be prepared for that. Stay hydrated. Take steps now and call 211 to find a cooling center. Check your local forecast at weather.gov. An excessive Heat Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, Whatcom as well as Clark, Cowlitz, Pacific, Skamania, and Wahkiakum counties. This could pose a moderate risk of heat-related illness.

If you do go out, do not leave children or pets in vehicles. In warm weather the temperature inside a vehicle can rise to over 30 degrees warmer than the outside temperature. Stay hydrated.
There’s an increasing risk of brush fires due to the hot and dry conditions.

Next week, forecasters say that a potential for thunderstorms exists, which could accelerate lightning wildfire starts. If you see a fire start, don’t hesitate to call 911.

If smoke impacts your health, you may want to take precautionary measures now before wildfires start such as checking your stock of N-95 masks, filters for box fans and checking filters in your home.

I've been enjoying hearing about the clean-up and tree planting activities that happened all over Snohomish County this weekend for Earth Day. If you support the idea of a cleaner, greener future, please consider contributing to my campaign. I need your help to get my message out to voters!
