This Tuesday we’re featuring The Longest Day Tennis Fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association!
This event took place at three clubs on July 20: Myers Park, Carmel and Charlotte. Collectively, the tennis players raised $60,000 for the association.

Meet Winston, our “precious pet” of the month! Winston is a two-and-a-half-year-old golden retriever who lives with his owners, Ashley and Thompson Westerberg.
Winston spent the first part of his life in New York City before the Westerbergs moved to Charlotte, Thompson’s hometown (he grew up in Myers Park). “This has made him a huge social butterfly,” says Ashley. “We have the best dog walker and Winston seems to have met everyone in the neighborhood.” Anytime he is out walking, he’s recognized for his signature bandanas.

Meet George Leitner!
George Leitner was born in Charlotte in 1953, where he first lived on S. Canterbury Road in the Cotswold neighborhood. At the age of 12, his family moved to Pomfret Lane in Foxcroft, and he now resides in the Eastover area. Except for a brief period spent at NC State and a year living in Tarpon Springs, FL, George has called Charlotte home for his entire life.

Sugar Schmidly, a 13-year-old English Cocker Spaniel, is a loving dog to her family and everyone around her. Her siblings – Henri, Eli, Ike, and Max – and her parents Wendy and Jason are her people! The Schmidlys adopted Sugar not long after she was born. Neighbors Laura and Mal McLean’s dog Lucy had a litter of puppies, and the McLeans wanted to give them to families they knew. God blessed the Schmidlys with Sugar, and it was love at first sight.

As a high school student, Jane Harrell was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare brain tumor. Jane was a true role model to not only her younger siblings but to everyone she met. Lauren Harnett, former executive director at Jane’s Fund, explains, “Because of Jane’s charge to them, her friends and family recognized the significant need that’s out there. That's really where Jane’s Fund was born.” The nonprofit focuses on pouring love into the world by providing financial support and encouragement to families experiencing personal hardship.

Spencer Lueders may not live in Myers Park, but he knows just about every nook and cranny along the tree-lined “B***y Loop” better than anybody. It was here in 2002, that he pedaled alone on his bike for 24 hours straight to raise awareness of cancer’s prevalence and help make an impact on the lives of those affected by it.
Fast forward 23 years: Lueders’ “crazy idea” has grown to become a Myers Park tradition and one of Charlotte’s largest annual fundraising events – 24 Hours of B***y.
When cyclists and walkers kick off this year’s event on July 26, a familiar face will be hard to miss. Matt Doherty, former UNC men’s head basketball coach and a starter on the 1982 National Championship team, is partnering with Lueders and 24 Foundation on its signature fundraiser, 24 Hours of B***y.

The Dempsey family – Sherrill, Trey, Lucy, and Lawrence – is smitten with their companions, Nash and Rocky. An integral part of the family, the dogs are often on guard at the gate, watching passers-by. At night, Rocky sleeps with Lucy, while Nash finds his rest in his homey crate. The Dempseys have always had a dog. Rocky (7) came first, and then Nash (3) was added as a playmate. They love any treat and enjoy free rein around the house and lounging on furniture. They are both easy to be around and add joy to the lives around them.
