Beautiful Zápor 🦄 she's 1 month old and has a very promising personality. She is friendly and vivid, curious and brave, likes kids and tolerates tools. I think we are very lucky to have both our foals that was born for us to be like this. Is that really luck? Or proper handling? I think we need both 🙃 but let me know what you think, what are your own foals like 🐴

Who's boss in your herd? 😎 Nina drinks first and won't let the ponies close until she's done.

Our sporthorse foal didn't make it :( we are devastated, Nina is grieving. I milk her to help twin foals where the mare is short in milk. It is also important because when nursing, oxitocin is released and help the uterus shrink back to it's original size.
We are all so sad loosing this foal :(

It is national bee day in Hungary. Our yard got occupied by thousands of bees couple days ago and more are coming. They are thirsty, come to the water. The problem is that horses are allergic to bee stings. I hope there won't be a problem because the bees stay until next weekend. There are lots of travelling beekepers in the surrounding forests because of the flowering acacia. We remove the water tanks of the horses every day so the bees can drink from the ground and stay on the previous water spot. It will be lots of work and planning because of the length of our hose but the safety of the horses and also the bees is important. 🐝🐴 This situation is very new to us but from now on every spring we have to get prepared for it.

Oh what a cheeky little thing 😎 she is a handful already 😅 kicking the dog, cantering around the paddock all alone, eating hay, bucking to push her mom aside. She is so independent and just 5 days old 🙃 her name is Zápor which means rain shower because right after she was born we got soaked by a rain shower and her personality is so intense too 🥰

Horses usually give birth alone. Our little pony had this beautiful pinto filly yesterday. The foal is huge compared to the mother's size and she probably new that she would need help. She started birthing while I was in the paddock. Our gelding foal was sleeping outside and both mares just lied down next to me and I could see the water broke. The other mare is pregnant too, she was just resting with us, leaving the task to me. Ambience was all peaceful and trustful. I already could see the two front legs and the head but after a while it stuck, Angyal stood up and lied down several times, I had to call the vet for instructions. Finally I pulled out the foal very slowly and gently, the mother was exhausted. I had to carry her to the mom's head so she could lick her clean. That is very important as the first stimulus and also for bonding. She could stand up before the mother and the other mare came close too. And they gave each other really cute calling noises and the baby went under her thinking she was the mom. When her mother could stand up, the other mare was already protecting the foal. We had to act quickly, thankfully my partner was there too by then and we could get back the little one to her real mother. Then they recognized each other and with the nursing everything fell into place. The other mare got relaxed too and the baby started to follow her mom. It was good that the 2 years old foal was separated. This was such a beautiful and exciting experience and I'm glad to share because it was so special.

Indy had castration today. Our mares will give birth hopefully this month and will be in heat soon after. It wouldn't be fair with Indy to keep him as a stallion next to two mares. I also will give him some herbs that has the fantasy name 'crazy gelding' to cool him off if necessary because his hormones are still active for weeks. He was always a very nice and calm little stallion, no problem at all thanks to our connection through handling.

Check this out! My boy Indy is standing on the exact same spot. Watch the line of his back. When he puts his head up to the fence he is irritated by me, wants to go closer to the pony and doesn't want me to get closer to him at the moment (baby stallion but already protecting his mare). I stopped and showed him I'm no threat and asked consent to be close to him by body language ☝️ he lowered his head and turned towards me right away. His back line got up. When you think about having a saddle on his back, the line is hidden from the eyes but you will know where it is if you examine your horse from ground.

Indy's winter coat is lighter in colour than his summer coat. Interesting. Under the reddish light brown there you can see his darker side now 😎 Usually the opposite happens and the horses get much lighter by shedding. He is still a foal and he will change in colour every year but I'm expecting bigger changes too later because of his varnish roan appaloosa father 🐴

I'm feeding from the ground, most natural way. There's waste of course, that goes to the garden for mulch. We're gonna have a feeder later when we plan the new paddocks. Until that they enjoy hay paradise 😅

There's a saying if a girl gets cleaned around then won't get married. It means she is lazy 😅 Are your horses calm while you do the chores? Angyal is like a real angel 🦄😇

21/03/2024

Indy's mom Nina is a very well trained, well behaved horse. But also tends to be tense during tasks. She is compliant but not comfortable. I always give her enough time to relax after a completed task before I ask for something else. She is 22 this summer, I think she's burned out 😑 it's important to notice! ☝️

No grains, only grass and hay.
Healthy and strong 2 years old sportaloosa stallion.
You may achieve spectacular growth in sporthorse foals with excessive protein intake, but their joints are not ready for that and can't keep up with the increased muscle strength. Grains are not natural forage for horses. We should provide a variety of grass species, herbs and hedges instead.

Your c**t is rearing/pushing/bolting/trampling? Stallion foals can be challenging if they are not handled properly from the beginning. 🐴
Mine just walks into everybody's personal space in a very cute way, wants some scratches. This is still rude, we are working on it. If you want to work with us, please contact me, I might be able to help you :)
