In a nutshell, Patreon is an online crowd-funding platform that allows fans to support creators on a more sustainable basis than a one-off Kickstarter campaign. Rather than raising money for one specific thing (like with Kickstarter or IndieGoGo), Patreon allows creators to raise money to help them continue to work on their projects - it's a similar idea to renaissance times when wealthy nobles would become patrons of artists and sculptors, paying them a regular wage to create art for them and helping them to keep putting a roof over their heads and food on the table. For our purposes, we'd like Patreon to provide us with a monthly payment that we can then pay directly to our artists in exchange for them creating comic pages for us - the more people who pledge beyond our minimum goal, the more artists we can afford to hire.
