Located in Koreatown, Los Angeles, it opens its second restaurant in Rowland Heights and provides high-quality grilled Chang. Here comes our Top 3 list:

🐮Intestine Combo
Large intestine, small intestine and abomasum consist of the trio of the combo. Before serving on the table, they are pre-grilled and wait for the magic moment of turning bouncy to crispy. Though large and small intestines may be full of oil, it doesn’t taste greasy after the second grill. The chewy abomasum prolongs the aroma of the sweet grilling sauce. Pickles, pumpkin and rice cake as the side dish enhance the flavor and enrich the texture.

🧀🥩Cheese spicy beef back ribs
The dense cheese above and the special chili paste fulfill the flavor, and long-time stewing makes the ribs melt in one bite. One of our colleagues regards the dish as the “hidden gem” of King Chang because although it appears in many Korean restaurants, it has pleasant sauces and a huge size available for four people for only $30.

🍚Rice with spicy seasoned octopus in hot stone pot

Karaoke is usually a place for people to sing songs, but provides not only recorded music but also mouth-watering food. Here are what we love to eat after dining and entertaining in its room:

🍰Cream cheese canapes:
These are our most favorite food, as they balance the sweetness and cream with blueberry, strawberry, avocado and grape. Though there seems to be a bit much syrup and cream, the dainty canapes taste not even cheesy and cloying at all.

😋Rose rice cake:
Known in Korean as Rose Tteokbokki, the chewy rice cakes are simmered in a delicious smoky, spicy sweet cream sauce with cheese. Its creamy taste makes it become the most popular dish among Korean youngsters when they come here.

🍜Spicy whelk meat with mixed veggies and noodles:
The noodles inside resemble Korean cold noodles, but they are made from wheat rather than soba. The bouncy whelk meat and crunchy veggies jointly bring us a refreshing journey to the sea.

Located in LA Koreantown and opened in December last year, Blah Blah Karaoke often updates the latest songs per month. The list includes Korean songs like Cookie by New Jeans, Eleven by Ive, and N**e by Gidle. It also has Chinese and English songs that our friends can sing along.

Yum Dumpling sounds like a dumpling house, but it has the most authentic Wuhan breakfast in Orange County, California.

Wuhan locals call their breakfast “过(Guo)早(Zao),” with two different definitions. One is “passing the breakfast.” Since Wuhan is the center of transportation in eastern China, people here need to finish their meals for work as quickly as possible. Therefore, you may see them eating breakfast while walking or cycling.

Another is celebrating breakfast. The Wuhan adage “having the same breakfast as the emperor’s” shows that the Wuhanese treasure their breakfast and want to make it a ritual. Staple food, meat, and protein appear the most on their table. Here are what we had on ours:

🤤Hot Dry Noodle:
A golden noodle bowl filled with sesame sauce, chili oil, soybean sauce, and vinegar.
🤤Wuhan Shumai:
It’s bigger than the Cantonese one and contains sticky rice, Shiitake, and ground pork
🤤Signature Flavored Beef Rice Noodle Soup:
One sip of the soup warms my body, and the beef soaks the essence of different spices.
🤤Hu Tang Fen (Paste soup powder):
This soup consists of mushy fish and dried shrimp with black pepper and spicy Daikon.
🤤Pan Fried Pork Buns:
Shanghai and Henan flavors combine, with Shanghainese umami taste and Henanese big size.

“Chang” means intestines in both Korean and Chinese. We’ve had intestine dishes like dry-fried pork intestines in China. What does the Korean one taste like?

We brought our curiosity to SongHak Korean BBQ, which established in 2015 and owned four locations in California. With the common ground of eating offal, here are our top picks ✅

😎SongHak Combo:

Korean BBQ is inclined to beef intestines. In this combo, we chose Gop Chang (small intestines), Dae Chang (large intestines) and pork belly from the listed six items.

Peculiar was our first impression on Gop Chang, as it had bouncy exterior and the interior was not too greasy to eat. But its crumbly texture made some of us feel a bit weird. Anyway, you will know whether you like it until you try it. 😉

Dae Chang pieces were marinated and needed to be grilled in a longer time. Well, delicious delicacy was worth waiting. So as the golded brown, crispy large intestines, with mellow fat inside. 🤤

If you want to try a different cooking style, Stir Fried Spicy Daechang would be the best choice. Gochujang, onions and sesame can ease the greasiness of large intestines. One piece can make your tongue filled with adrenaline. 😋

🥩Prime Combo No.6:

Apart from Chang, SongHak also has prime beef combo, including four types of steaks and Black Tiger Shrimp.

Staff at SongHak told us that only the intermixture of fat and lean in a cut of meat could be called “Highly Marbled.” That’s why I preferred Highly Marbled Rib Eye Steak, as only one single bite could I taste the juice and freshness of the beef. 🤩

Grilling beef may require more patience and adeptness. The staff came to our table time to time and checked our cooking pan, as if they installed a timer in their body. Thanks to them, we had a wonderful time eating Korean BBQ at SongHak. 🥰

Cantonese cuisine is beyond Dim Sum.

It’s about umami and high quality of rice and meat. Hometown Guangzhou, previously known as Happy Tree House BBQ at Mandarin Plaza in Rowland Heights, is using the casserole and spit-rosating techniques to bring their unique flavors to LA foodies. Here are our top picks ⬇️

🍚Claypot Rice / Rice Casserole:
Presoaked rice, Chinese sausage and vegetables were parkcooked in a claypot with oil and soya sauce. The combination of sweetness, salt, grease and freshness flows into your mouth while you’re tasting. At some point, the rice turns into crust, resonating Korean bibimbap with crispy and sticky texture.

🍲Claypot Pork Tripe:
If you’re a fan of chewy and bouncy texture, pork tripe is a must-order for you. The claypot can assist these tripes to absorb the aroma of onions, garlic, cilantro, green onions and pepper. The more you bite them, the more the flavors will release on your tongue.

🥩BBQ Meat Platter / Siu Mei:
The soul of siu mei is the skin of every meat, as it swallow all the aroma from roasted wood and other ingredients. We choose Cantonese roasted duck, char siu and crispy pork on a platter. Grease and meat just fill our stomach after tasting the thin and fat, dry and wet combination.

🥩Gyutan Tsukasa USA:
Highly recommend the Gyutan Set with 12 pieces of beef tongues. One single bite of each will let the bounce and tenderness dance in your mouth, exhaling the aroma of the wood. 🤤

🍛Miyabi Tei:
Pork Cutlet Curry is a must-order on its menu, as it has Japanese-style curry with few heavy spices. The crispy surface and tender meat lead the pork cutlet to a symphony of dryness and juice. 😋

🍜Hokkaido Ramen Santouka:
The Tonkotsu broth is super creamy, but we choose to add some chili as it can mitigate the grease of the soup. Ajitsuke Tamago and Cha-Shu just trigger our savor, and ramen noodles won’t turn mushy even if we absorb them for a long time.🤩

is making mini angus buns in OC. 😋Unlike Xiaolongbao or dumplings that are steamed or boiled, these buns are fried with oil and pan that can make the wrapper super crunchy. From Shandong, China, the owners of Little Pan has brought their love of Chinese buns and dumplings to the U.S., where they created these finger-size buns. Only with one bite can you eat the whole bun at a time. 🤩

p.s. Be careful while eating the bun. Otherwise, it will burn your tongue when its soup flows in your mouth! 🥵

Have you ever put intestines and maws into your rice noodle soup? Zhou’s Guilin Rice Noodle will give you such an experience with Combo No.13 Pork Intestine and Pork Maw Rice Noodle Soup, adding peanuts, pickled beans and homemade chili sauce. Both intestines and maws are cleaned and braised by Zhou, and they don’t have the blood tastes. Soaking the brasing pork gravy, they remain their original bouncy texture and absorb different spices.

If you are a soup noodle bowl lover, you must try Combo No.14 Beef Rice Noodle Soup at Zhou’s Guilin Rice Noodle. 🍜

The beef is braised in a mixture of pork broth, soy sauce, cooking wine, sugar, fermented bean curd, and various flavors such as anise and clove. After soaking the mixture for five hours, the beef is cut into paper-like slices, standing on the top of the rice noodle bowl. In one bite, you can have all these flavors rolling in your mouth. 🥩

In addition to the existing pickled beans, cilantro, fried peanut, and bok choy, we order the Tofu Skin Salad as the side dish and mix it with the rice noodle bowl. The chewy and smooth taste just makes us feel like a duet playing on the tongue. 💞

Guilin, a tourist city in Guangxi Autonomous Zhuang Region, China, is famous for its snake-like rivers and rice noodles. Zhou’s Guilin Rice Noodle has brought the local taste of Guilin to LA.

The soul of Combo No.1 Beef & Crispy Pork Rice Noodle is crispy pork, and it has a Chinese name called 锅(guo)烧(shao), meaning pot heat. Its name originated from ancient Guilin, where people used the excess heat of the wok to roast the pork skin as a side dish after cooking their main course. Nowadays, Guilin chefs use oil to fry the pork but keep the original name of this dish in memory of their ancestors. With additional grease, the crispy pork makes plenty of foodies mouth-watering.

The gravy is another core of this combo. Pickled water, pepper, dry chili, sugar, sorghum wine and different types of herbs. They all come together to dance in rice noodles, embracing tastes of sour, salt and spice. Though the gravy tastes a bit greasy for us, we still love its aroma. ❤️
