It was founded in 2002 by David Colohan, Shane Cullinane and Gavin Prior who were already playing together in Murmansk. They began the label with the first Murmansk album on CDR and followed it releases from other projects, many sharing members. Since then there have been releases by musicians from around the world on just about every format. Deserted Village takes its name from the poem "The Dese
rted Village" by Oliver Goldsmith which was written when Goldsmith was living in David Colohan's hometown Ballymahon, County Longford. The Bog Lane Theatre in Ballymahon was the venue for the "Music From The Deserted Village" day of music in 2002. Deserted Village began promoting live music in earnest in 2004 with shows in Dublin and Galway with Black Forest/Black Sea. Deserted Village have promoted shows for:
