Pakwan is a deep-fried, crispbread made with all-purpose flour. This fried bread has the taste of carom seeds, cumin, and crushed black pepper generally served with dal.

Thadri is a day when fire is not lit in the house. The food is prepared a day prior to the festival. Mitha Lolos are a must. According to Sindhi Rituals, it is celebrated to calm anger of Mata Sitladevi, who cures small pox and chicken pox with cold food prepared a night prior.

According to holy books, the Goddess Parvati fasted and prayed fervently for the great Lord Shiva to become her spouse. Touched by her devotion, he took her for his wife. Goddess Parvati, in gratitude, sent her emissary to preach and disseminate this religious fasting among mortal women, promising prosperity and longevity with their families. Thus was born the festival of Teej.
