Did I ever tell you about the time a pretty girl and her friends came up to me at a party? In a Georgetown hotel suite, and she asked what did you think of Frank?

"Well, I said I watched him." He had opened for Eddy Raven. (Eddy Raven back in the late 70's thru 90's wrote and recorded some good stuff)

They had closed the Square down. It was only merchants and dancers and revelers allowed beyond the barricades. This was a street dance, and country music was the feature.

I watched Frank and Eddy Raven. And me along with a few others were invited to the after show party in the about biggest suite a two story hotel would allow.

She said, "Well, What did you think?"

I said, "Thanks for asking. But I've been asked to leave, and the cops are called."

"What happened?"

"Well it seems I asked your brother if he might try singing country music instead"

Don't know what happened to him. She seems to be ageless in my mind.

And I am about as cynical as then

Went to Michigan, different pitch from the struggling folks. Asked for money for car broke down on highway, but then they answered their cell phone and walked away. No "trying to get to Houston".

Saw them later several blocks further from the highway...

Debts are messy.

But none of these people that I saw did they even hold a guitar or offer a song or a story.

So went the past. And so went Austin
