I have cut them down every year, I have dug them up and given them away. I have hated them, berated their location and they just smile and give me the middle finger and put on a show for the neighborhood. They are over five feet tall.

Please don’t kill these insects if you see them in your yard or on your plants. This is a firefly. They are harmless to your plants and garden, but super beneficial to help control certain bug populations. Fireflies spend the first 2 years of their lives as larvae in the ground. As larvae, they eat slugs, worms, cutworms, mosquito larvae (under the right conditions), and more. If you treat your lawn with pesticides or herbicides, you are harming fireflies and other beneficial insects and larvae that live in the ground. We need these creatures… for soil health and erosion control.. and to provide food for birds, frogs, and other insects… take away these creatures and eventually other insects and animals will disappear as well.

My Coleus is very happy on my deck and grew a lot. Unfortunately we get frost here in northern California. I'm afraid I would break it if I tried to move it and finding a spot for it inside is also difficult since it has gotten so big. What can I do?

Tip of the day for weather forecasting ☀️: Nothing is easier than hanging a pine cone on a string. When it’s open, the weather is good; when it closes, bad weather is coming. Predicting the weather is useful for the garden. It’s simple and it works, I’ve been doing this for years 😊🌲

[ I usually use the insides of old bananas in smoothies or banana bread and toss the skins out into the garden beds where they dissapear after two days. I think the opossums eat them but liked the following information a lot. 😊👍👍 ]
_______________________________________

"Recycle overripe bananas by hanging them up in your garden. 👇

1. Attracts Beneficial Insects: The sweet aroma of overripe bananas attracts butterflies, bees, and ladybugs.
2. Nutrient-Rich Compost: After attracting insects, the banana can be added to your compost pile for nutrient-rich soil.
3. Natural Fertilizer: As the banana decomposes, it releases nutrients directly into the soil, acting as a natural fertilizer.
4. Repels Certain Pests: The strong scent of overripe bananas can repel pests like aphids and gnats.
5. Supports Earthworm Activity: Overripe bananas can attract earthworms to your garden beds, improving soil health."
