I've seen vibraphonist / marimbist Patricia Brennan live but have not spent much time with her recorded works. If Breaking Stretch is a representative example of the latter, that's my loss. The album features a septet with bassist Kim Cass, drummer Marcus Gilmore, percussionist Mauricio Herrera saxophonists Jon Irabagon and Mark Shim, and trumpeter Adam O’Farrill. While this lineup screams New York creative music, it delivers even if fitting within that broad set of styles....

A prolific composer, his total output numbers more than 500 works, although he is particularly known for his operas.
