When I recorded this week's episode, it was a dark period in world history with war, hijackings, and - for those of us living here in Israel - the horrific kidnappings of hundreds of our citizens. It is my sincere hope that when this episode airs - either now or at some future date - some semblance of peace will have returned to the Middle East and the world at large.

But in the meantime, I've got a special show about the longing for home. Whether that's people literally ripped from their homes or more old-fashioned sentiments - a spouse waiting for their partner at home, explorations of what home even means.

Music from Lola Marsh, Skylar Grey, Moonshine, the Head and the Heart, Aviv Geffen, Teenage Fanclub, Clark Kent, Old Man River, Yo La Tenga, Snow Patrol, the Flaming Lips and more.

Wherever you are, it's time to come home.

Here's what you'll hear on the show:

Lola Marsh - Until You Come Back
Skylar Grey - Coming Home Part 2
Moshav Band - Come Back
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - Home
Moonshine - Come Back Home
The Head and the Heart - Homecoming Heroes
Teenage Fanclub - I Can’t Find My Way Home
Berry Sacharov - Come Home
Aviv Geffen - Empty at Home
Idan Raichel Project - Shuvi El Beyti (Come Back to My Home)
Keira Knightley - Tell Me if You Want to Go Home (Begin Again soundtrack)
Jason Falkner - My Home is Not a House
Shawn Colvin - Sunny Came Home
Pete Yorn - Come Back Home
Klark Kent - Away from Home
Simon and Garfunkel - Homeward Bound
Buffalo Springfield - On the Way Home
Ringo Starr & His New All-Star Band (feat. Roger Hodgson) - Take the Long Way Home (cover: Supertramp)
Avril Lavigne - Nobody’s Home
Sparks - My Baby’s Taking Me Home
Steven Wilson - Please Come Home
Guster - Homecoming King
Snow Patrol - I Think of Home
Passenger - Home
Michelle Branch - Carry Me Home
The Icicles - Home I Don’t Know You Anymore
Old Man River - Long Way from Home
Yo La Tenga - I Feel Like Going Home
Iron and Wine - Carried Home
Neal Morse Band - The Road Called Home
The Flaming Lips - She’s Leaving Home (cover: Beatles)

My grandson can't say "S" yet. Which is an important letter because in Hebrew, Grandpa is "Saba." So he calls me "Baba." Which got your host for Brainwaves thinking about songs with "ba-ba" in them. But not just ba-ba's but na-na's, da-da's, doo-doo's and ma-ma's. It sounds silly but you'll be amazed how much great music has repeating consonants like this.

Ba-ba's from Teenage Fanclub, R.E.M., Pink Floyd and the Partridge Family. Na-na's from J. Geils, Counting Crows, Steam, Blink 182 and the Beatles. Ma-ma's from ELO, The Who and the Crash Test Dummies. Da-da's and doo-doo's from Elastica, Lou Reed and the Police. Plus some Lady Gaga (ra-ra), Carpenters (sha-la-la) and Hebrew rock from HaTikva 6 (pam-pam).

Here's the playlist for this week's show:

Steven Wilson has been described as "the most talented musician most people have never heard of." But the prolific Wilson has headed up multiple bands - the Porcupine Tree, No-Man, Blackfield, Storm Corrosion - plus he's released seven stellar solo albums.

So this week, it's all Steven Wilson on Brainwaves. Music from all his bands and collaborations, including with Israeli pop star Ninet Tayeb. The songs on this week's show are on Wilson's mellower end, with a side of metal thrown in here and there.

Brainwaves is obsessed. Soon you will be, too.

Here's what you'll hear on the show:

Steven Wilson - Happiness III
Steven Wilson - Drive Home

It's the final episode for Brainwaves A to Z, the special series of the show where I play music from my iTunes collection alphabetically. (Don't worry, "regular" Brainwaves isn't going anywhere.)

This week, it's three letters in one: X, Y and Z. Why? How many songs or bands do you know that start with X or Z?

Kicking off with two songs from XTC and ending with Zumpano. What's in the middle? Lots of Y - Yes, Yuck, Yo La Tenga, Yehuda Poliker, Yael Deckelbaum and Yehuda Ledgley.

Plus Y songs from Lisa Loeb, the Decemberists, the Bats, Jason Falkner, Shoes, Nik Kershaw and even Al Stewart (remember Year of the Cat?)

Celebrate 26 episodes of A to Z music on Brainwaves this week!

Here's the playlist:

XTC - Ten Feet Tall
XTC - Mayor of Simpleton
The XX - VCR
Yehuda Poliker - The Child Within You
Yes - Starship Trooper
