Samuel means “Name of God” or “God has heard”. Sam’s parents named him after his father. Sam Sr.
Bobbie means “Shining with bright fame” or “Bright. Famous”. I was supposed to be the 4th, had I been a boy...lol! But, my parents ended up with me...lol! So, they decided to still name me after my dad, Robert. (But, I’m NOT Roberta. Just Bobbie.)

Understanding Contracts

As you know, many businesses have policies, rules and regulations etc., so that the business can run smoothly. This includes a contract. When you sign a contract, you are acknowledging that you agree to their terms and conditions. It also means that you have fully read the contract and agreed to their terms. Once the contract is read and signed, that contract is BINDING and complete. No changes or modifications; just the contract that you have signed. It's unfortunate that most people don't understand what a contract is/ means. Just like when you are buying a car, phone or a house, these are examples of things that you have to sign a contract for. Companies do not change their contracts to accommodate you. Their contracts are done their own way for a reason. This is to protect you and them. So, before you sign a contract, make sure that you understand what you are signing. If you have any questions, ask.
You are Allowed to Write a ‘Sub Par’ First Draft

Sometimes…well, MOST times, your first draft (of whatever you are working on) is BAD! It REALLY is! Typos, run on sentences, things out of place….
Sometimes it’s your own self doubt that will mess with your mind. When I published my first book, I was CONVINCED that no one would buy it. But, I was wrong! Thankfully…lol!! However, I don't think anyone would have purchased my first drafts. They were a mess!!
Just remember, you are allowed to make mistakes. That's why the first attempts are called "drafts". Keep working toward your goal and you will get to where you want to be!

Being Honest

We all know that being honest goes a long way. It means that you are a good person, with good intentions. You wouldn't try to "fleece" others.
When it comes down to it, it should be about doing the right thing. If you found a bag with a lot of cash, would you keep it? Or try to find out who it belongs to? If it were yours, wouldn't you want the finder to return it? You definitely would.
This is the same idea when it comes to contracts. You would want a contract that you signed to be honored. You don't want to be deceived in that contract.
The saying "Karma is a B!^$ #" rings true. If you are doing something dishonest, believe me– it'll catch up with you.

It’s the middle of the week, and I’d like for you to take time to not only write, but to take time for yourself. After you are finished writing for the day, you should do something for yourself. Go for a walk, do a good workout, take a drive, stop for a treat. Even though things are slowing down with the pandemic, you can still do things safely and for yourself. Take time to walk away from your projects for a day or two; taking a break from it can help breathe new life into your work. Because, when you are a writer, oftentimes you find that you get ‘writer’s block’. And you don’t want that. So, take some time to yourself… And don’t forget to BREATHE…Just, Breathe….

Not all writers have the passion and desire to write a novel. There is nothing wrong with writing a novel. But, not everyone wants to write that “Great American Novel”. If you find yourself in that category, try your hand at writing short stories.
Short story writing is in demand; newspapers, magazines and blogs are searching for people who can write good, short stories. AND they pay well!
In a short story, you must remember to start as close to the end as you can, keep the characters small, and always keep up the pace! This is the basic key to great short story writing! Give it a try and good luck!
Apostrophes? What??

I know you see it. It bugs me! Does it bug you? We see it on social media ALL the time; friends and family using the "apostrophe" WRONG!!!
I just HAVE to say this, when you are writing something, ANYTHING that will be read by ANYONE other than YOU, please CHECK first! Then, check again. Then, check ONE MORE TIME....
I've noticed that when people are writing their posts on social media, they have been using the apostrophe like so.....
"We had a great day out and about today! Here is a picture of us; the Cubbage's!" I'm sorry. This is NOT grammatically correct. If I am talking about one person in the Cubbage family, that would be fine. For example, "I gave Mrs. Cubbage's gift to her husband." THAT is correct. But, if we are talking about the Cubbage family, you would say, "I have a gift for the Cubbages."
I hope that this can clear things up. If you have ANY questions on HOW to use the apostrophe, feel free to ask someone. And if you don't have anyone to ask, ask ME! I'm happy to help. PLEASE!! I REALLY CAN HELP!

Writing Tips about Harassment for Business (Prompts)(Written or Verbal)

Written or verbal harassment where you work can be uncomfortable. It's unproductive. More importantly, it’s against the law. Written or verbal harassment of any kind, can be taken VERY seriously.
If you are feeling bullied, harassed or humiliated, not only make sure to tell someone you trust, tell someone at work; a supervisor, a co-worker, the HR department.
But, if you or someone you know are being harassed at work, you should keep a record of the abuse. Do NOT retaliate.
Here are a few tips on how to write about harassment.
If someone has written a note to you on social media, in a message, email or an actual note, and you are feeling uncomfortable about the message, the first thing to do is to screenshot the message.
Keep this information. Depending how long the harassment has gone on, you can build a very strong case against the person who is harassing you.
Keep a log of what the person is doing to you; and the type of harassment.
Keep a log of how many times you’ve told this person to stop.
Okay! I think that you have a nice bit of information! And a great way to stop the harassment at your job, once and for all.

An interesting subject, huh? Well, I think so! LOL! I was approached last week about how to write harassment policies. And I was happy to help; because writing for business purposes is VERY important, too!
There are MANY forms of harassment. But this week, we are going to focus on 3 forms: Written or verbal, online/cyberbullying, and psychological. This week, we are going to touch on them all.
The first thing to do is to find out if your company has harassment policies already in place. If so, find out if you can help enhance those policies. Be sure to find out what type of legal ramifications are in place.

Plagiarism a Serious Crime

We have discussed this topic before….PLAGIARISM!! Plagiarism is a SERIOUS crime! Many people don’t ACTUALLY understand the ramifications of a plagiarism accusation. If someone accuses you of plagiarism, you can find yourself in a world of trouble. If you have stolen information from other people, are passing it off as your own, AND may be using it in a place that can be searched, you very well could get in trouble.
But, I have found that there is a way to find out if you are even BORDERLINE plagiarizing other people’s work. As I speak often of technology, I found that there are several apps that can help you check for plagiarism.
There are a few links below that you can use that will help you avoid getting into trouble.

PlagScan
All of these sites and apps can get you on your way to checking to see if YOU are plagiarizing someone’s work. Or if your work is being plagiarized. Check it out!
Publishing Companies Make Mistakes, Too!

The title IS right! “Publishing Companies Make Mistakes, Too!”. There are many, many, MANY books out there with TONS of mistakes. Sometimes an editor might miss something in the manuscript , and it goes to print, and it’s out there! LIke a sore thumb! I have seen mistakes in books, on the back cover, and maybe MOST embarrassing-- on the FRONT cover!
No matter what, there have been authors who have either made mistakes and let it go, claimed to have wanted it that way, or have fessed up to the mistakes.
I was having a discussion about this exact subject. And my friend said, “With all of the technology out there today, there is no way that you can have ANY misspelled words...anywhere!” I agreed. However, if you look past the ‘spell check’ abilities of your computer, you are destined to have a novel FULL of mistakes.
That is what MOST publishing companies try to avoid. But, Publishing Companies can make minor mistakes, too. Not on purpose. Sometimes the editing crew might miss something, or think that they are looking at the right word, etc.
Don’t lose your cool. It’s all good. Have a discussion with your company. They will discuss it with the editor. And all will be fine.
