Fiber overall is such a big part of maintaining a healthy digestive tract and colon. It is said that humans used to consume over 100 grams of fiber a day, just naturally due to what they chose to eat. Now, the average person maybe gets 15g daily, while I always say to shoot for at least 40g daily.

Dietary fiber is the part of plant-based food that mostly passes through your digestive system without breaking down or being digested. There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble fiber.

Soluble fiber dissolves in water, and includes plant pectin and gums. Insoluble fiber doesn’t dissolve in water. It includes plant cellulose and hemicellulose.

Most plants contain both soluble and insoluble fiber, but in different amounts. An example for example, will have both. The skin is more so insoluble , while more of the inside is soluble. You will find a few foods in this picture that have both and the point being, is unless you have a specific condition, you won’t have to worry too much about which side your pulling from, since many healthy choices will have both.
