Robert C. Bender, 60, of Alton, has been charged in Oregon County with stealing $25,000 or more and first-degree murder, and in Shannon County with felony abandonment of a co**se. It is believed he killed Ramsey, stored her body, then moved it to a right-of-way along east U.S. 60 in late December 2021 or early January 2022. He was arrested Wednesday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and court records show he is held on two no-bond warrants out of Oregon and Shannon counties.

With the help of the FBI, a forensics expert at the University of Florida School of Medicine and family members of the victim, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified a woman who was found dead in Shannon County more than two years ago, and charged her brother with first-degree murder.

Crystle J.A. Wilson, 36, Sedalia, is charged in Shannon County with hindering the prosecution of a felony. Wilson allegedly disposed of the murder weapon, a .38-caliber pistol, after the Dec. 26, 2023, shooting death of William Stucker, 70, at his home.

Wilson was arrested on unrelated charges by the Sedalia Police Department in April. During a law enforcement interview, she reportedly said knew of a murder committed in the "Springfield area” and knew where the murder weapon was located.

A third suspect has been charged in the late-December murder of William Stucker, 70, Eminence, and court records show additional felony charges have been filed against two of the suspects in counties across the northwest corner of the state for other crimes allegedly committed both before and after....

Members of the local LGBTQ+ community want everyone to come out and meet them with the goal of facilitating a better understanding, and to hopefully see that they, like most everyone else, just want to live, work, raise their families and contribute without the threat of backlash over who they are overshadowing their daily lives.

With a focus on fun and inclusivity, the committee members of the first-ever West Plains LGBTQ+ Pride event are putting on the finishing touches. It will take place June 15 and 16 at Galloway Park and include musical entertainment, food trucks and activities.

So far this year in the patrol’s nine-county Troop G area there have been five fatalities, the last two of which were children, and whose deaths occurred while children were operating either an all-terrain vehicle or utility vehicle. The accidents happened a week apart on private properties near Willow Springs in Howell and in Oates in Reynolds County.

Warm weather starts the season of outdoor activities in Missouri, and off-road vehicle riding is a popular way to spend time for many families, including young children. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has long urged drivers and riders to make safety a priority to prevent serious injury or death d...

17/05/2024

Mayor Sharry McCann asked council members for approval of the budget as presented in December, subject to a line-by-line review after June 30. She gave a general revenue total of about $8.88 million, projected expenses totaling about $8.85 million and a balance of about $26,440.

"We have not been able to determine backup documentations for this, so that's why we're asking for the motion," she explained. "We need the budget approved before we can go on to do the other financial statement work."

Before approving the motion to accept the budget, council members confirmed with McCann they will have a work session on the financial statement.

She further explained the most recent city financial statement to be published publicly was from December 2022, and that state statute required a financial statement to be published in a local newspaper semi-annually, adding, "We will not have all the documentations to complete a statement until after June 30 of 2024, which will be after the review of the budget."

MOUNTAIN VIEW - At the regular monthly meeting of the Mtn. View City Council held Tuesday, Ed Martin was appointed West Ward alderman and sworn in by interim City Clerk Jessica Smith, who was offered the job permanently during a closed session held at the beginning of the meeting, and accepted.
