Many chiptune artists use "tricks" when composing their music, like an infinite number of tracks, different sound sets, or samples, which can approximate the layered style pop music we're all familiar with. Whilst using these tools might not compromise the overall artistic value of such music, it's disingenuous to call it 8-bit. All of the albums at Bleep Bop Records are composed for the NES, and sound exactly the same when played on a NES cart. The real challenge when composing for the NES (well, really for the 2A03 processor) are the limitations inherent to such an old system: a limited number of tracks, of cycles, of noise channels. These limitations don't necessarily translate into choppy bleeps and blops, but can be crafted into actual songs.
