A few weeks back Elevation NG invited us to be part of the facilitators of their Navigate 2021 Teens Mentorship Conference which was held from 19th to 23rd of July 2021. The Navigate Conference is an annual conference organized to impact teenagers within Nigeria (and the diaspora via virtual sessions) with an all-round investment in their development and growth, empowering them with life and vocational skills. The conference addressed key issues like self-awareness/esteem, leadership, nation-building, and personal & group productivity in addition to skills-development sessions that gave participants the opportunity to learn new skills across multiple vocations. Our focus was on teaching the teens the basics of Animation. Some of the topics covered were; - An Introduction to animation, principles and types of animation - Storytelling and Storyboarding - Using the Pivot animation tool One of the most important skills for anyone to have is to be able to communicate their ideas clearly and concisely (to be able to “Sell Your Ideas” in marketing-speak) and by the end of the classes, these teens learnt some of the tools and techniques for doing just this through storytelling and animation. The class comprised of both male and female teens with almost as many different personalities as there were students. Some of them were outspoken, others were quiet, and most were curious and eager to learn. The students were placed in several groups and learnt such useful life-skills as assertiveness, negotiation, teamwork, collaboration and the value of uniting and contributing to a common goal (yes we always say animation is a team sport) and by the end of the conference they were given the opportunity to pitch their group projects. The one-week program was definitely very intense, creative, skills-driven and challenging for these young people but at the end of the day it was also FUN! FUN!! FUN!! 🥰💃🏻 We’re always glad to be a part of any initiative that help

We always describe ourselves as young, vibrant and creative so today being International Youth Day, we just had to do a little something. On a serious note though, the IYD 2021 theme is “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”. One way we can innovate is by finding better ways to handle our personal waste. We all need to be more responsible with the way we treat our planet because what goes around comes around. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
