Luis Liwanag needs our help...
Dear friends, this is a difficult post for me to make because I know that there is no right timing especially with the recent typhoon Odette and the general pandemic that has been going on for the past two years.

I recently went for an executive check-up following a sharp pain in my head during a flight for a field assignment back in November. The pain lingered for a few weeks, so I had an MRI, ECG, chest X-ray, other blood tests, and finally, a full abdomen ultrasound. There were different findings such as undetected mini-strokes since 2019 when I had my last major hemorrhagic stroke. Some findings are pre-existing conditions, and others are expected due to age.

However, during the ultrasound, they found some cysts and a 4 centimeter mass on my left kidney. I was referred to a urologist and their prognosis was urgent surgery while it is still in an early stage so it doesn’t progress. For that reason, it has to be done by January 2022 and I was told to prepare around 300,000 pesos.

After my stroke in 2019 and due to the pandemic, I have not been able to earn as much as needed. I am now humbly asking for financial assistance through donations from those who are willing and able to. Any amount will incredibly help towards the goal.

Help can be sent to the following channels:

Thank you for supporting me and my family to help me overcome this health concern. Sharing this post and any thoughts or prayers will be very much appreciated as we deal with this. I will pay your kindness forward in any form I can. God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Luis

Dignity in photography is about representing people as individuals, with their own personalities, aspirations, and life experiences. Dignity is about telling their story — not a story that is created from stereotypes or based on the photographer’s assumptions.

Seven photographers share some of the ethical considerations that are most present in their minds when working on stories close to home.
