Good Afternoon ya'll! Today is "watering day", so I took a few photos of a few of my cacti: dry, watered and aerated (using 2 or 3 skewers). Hope it helps.

Good Afternoon Fellow Plant Enthusiasts! I just completed the "repotting" of two (2) fairly large Paddle Cacti. Needless to say, it was quite a job and I ended up with bunches of hairlike pickers in my hands....ouch! I only got stuck by the long needle ones a few times. ALSO, I made a mix of soil for them and I am hoping it is a good draining mix (we will see). I took pictures of the process and will add them. I will explain what is going on in the pictures instead of here. Please preview the pictures for the mix and explanation...thanks and enjoy!

Good Morning fellow plant enthusiasts! To lessen confusion on differences between plants, It would be advantageous to know Biological Classification. I posted a very good article by Lisa Bridenstine stating the differences between pothos and ivy. They are NOT the same.

Biological Classification:
KINGDOM
PHYLUM
CLASS
ORDER
FAMILY
GENUS
SPECIES

This has remained the same since it was generated and will keep everyone on the same page. You can NEVER go wrong if you refer to a plant by its biological name and put the "common name" in parenthesis.

ARACEAE FAMILY contains both pothos plants and ivy plants; however, they are NOT in the same genus!! Therefore, they are NOT the same plant.

The ARACEAE FAMILY comprises 113 genera and more than 1,500 plant species. Araceae is a family of monocotyledons (one leaf) flowering plants. Commonly known as "aroids". Araceae plants include: pothos, philodendrons, anthuriums, and peace lilies. They are also renowned for their ability to filter the air.

I hope this will help things. Personally, I was confused as to whether pothos and ivy were the same plant....they are not. Good Luck!

by Lisa Bridenstine. There are many similarities between pothos plants and ivy plants. It’s easy to see why people think pothos plants might be the same as ivy plants.

However, pothos plants aren’t technically ivy plants. These two types of plants come from different plant families.

The genus of pothos plants is known as Epipremnum. Plants that belong to this genus are evergreen perennial vines that are part of the Araceae family.

Ivy plants belong to the Hedera genus. They’re a type of evergreen woody vine that belongs to the Araliaceae family.

Both of these plants are evergreen vines, and they look like they could belong to the same plant family in some ways. Even if they are distinct plants that come from different plant families, it’s still understandable why people might mistake one for the other if they don’t have a lot of prior knowledge.

Some folks have been asking about sansevieria (Snake plant) leaves tipping away. This does occur on the "margin" of the growing area as there is nothing on the outside to keep them upright. My solution is to tie them in a circle. I have an old "sheer curtain" and I cut stripes off of it to accomplish this. Here are some photos along with some "Springtime Purchases from our local nursery "Corky's Garden Path Greenhouse. I hope it helps:

OK, it is tax season so I went today to file; however, on the way home I passed by Corky's Garden Path Greenhouse....my car just turned right in there!!!!!! It was uncanny! They had ALL the plants people love on the various garden sites.....monsteras, pothoses (varigated, white, yellow etc.) ferns of all types and much, much more. I ended up bringing home: 4" Mother Of Thousands (9.99) / 2 -4" Blue Star Ferns (9.99 each) / and a 6" Sansevieria "Moonshine" (19.99). So, as soon as I got home I repotted the Blue Ferns into one hanging container and also repotted the Sansevieria (Moonshine) which was deforming the plastic pot, (this plant is a grayish snake plant) that is supposed to reach 2 feet in height. I left the Mother Of Thousands alone. I took a bunch of photos, so here they are:

A few weeks ago I cut the top off of my dracaena and left the base and two "pups" which continue to do well. Then I cut a lengthy section off the bottom of the crown and put it in water (still NO ROOTS); however, I placed the crown in water and it had some good roots. As it was starting to turn slightly yellow, tonight I planted it and am hoping that the roots take well in the soil (I will keep you posted). Here are a series of pictures up to and including tonight "re-planting".....wish me luck with it!

I had to cut my dracaena into three sections due to the height. I will post them. It appears the top section is now rooting, the middle appears to have some roots and the bottom section had two large "pups on it" which I left......they are doing quite well. I would make sure you clean the "saw" that you use to cut the plant to prevent bacteria getting in. Then remove a few layers of leaves from the bottom of the upper section, seal the bottom (I brushed on wax) and cover just the bottom of the exposed stem with rain water / dehumidifier water or water that has set for at least 24 hours. Then watch the water level and add some as needed. It takes a little bit for new roots to generate....as it does it generates rooting hormone. That is why they do not recommend throwing the water out just adding a little fresh to what is there. Good Luck.

Evening! Well, I am "pooped" however, I did get over half my enclosed porch plants "Spring-ized"! I took a lot of photos and I have at least two more days of work before the project is completed.

Good Morning Y'All! Due to my many "hobbies" i.e. house, geckos and indoor plants, I will NOT be doing a porch garden this year; however, I am in the process of "re-doing" my indoor plants so they will have energy for Springtime which is upon us! My collection of plants (like my Geckos) is extensive and requires a lot of care indeed; however, it can be quite satisfying. Some of the plants I have are: various cactus species, various fern species, Dracaenas, bromeliads, Albuca spiralis (fizzle sizzle plants), pothos, ivy and I just won several Mexican Hat Plants from Lisa Starbuck and they are not only very healthy but are growing like crazy! I also help my BFF Rachel Keisling Burke with her plants as well. She keeps a Money Tree, Christmas cactus, Goldfish plant, also paddle cactus and a String Of Pearls (water only from the bottom). Now that Spring has sprung....things are looking up and all the plants are coming along nicely. I will be posting quite a few pictures showing my plants being readied with new fresh soil and a good watering! I created Kimo's Indoor Plants because I do not have a "forum" to post multiple pictures and lengthy discussions. With this page I will be able to share a multitude of photos and information. I am pretty knowledgeable concerning flora; however, I am not an expert but will try to answer any questions or make a suggestion as to how to help a plant in trouble. Tips For Snake Plants: Let them completely dry out 100% before watering, NO direct sunlight (especially from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.) they will burn and turn pretty yellowish. Indirect light, well draining soil, well draining pot and infrequent watering you will have to figure out the schedule for the plant. More water in winter due to the extremely dry condition caused by heating the house, the humidity drops dramatically! Thanks and Have A Good One!
