Your holiday PSA: Self care is taking a quick bike ride while the dryer is running. Bring (bribe) the kids to come along if they can’t be left home alone.
I moved from a planned bike-centric community in Denver, CO. We had to buy a 2nd car because I no longer could be car free. These are the 4 ways I still live a car-light life in a car centric place.
1. I had an insane excel spreadsheet when buying our house. Weighing school ratings and bike/walk safety.
2. I batch my errands by bike to make them more efficient and lean on the e-bike to allow me to go the longer and safer ways.
3. It is legal to ride on the sidewalk and I choose this option if it’s not a low-stress bike route.
4. I don’t bike everyday and take notice on the places I frequent that I can’t bike to. This is where I really apply the most pressure to our town to help make these missed connections possible.
How do you make car-light living work and what were your main fears or questions starting out?

What’s your top bike gear that helped you get out on the bike more often in 2024?!
Need to add some lights to the front!
45° and rain, but I’m still happy I picked a bike over a car for some quick errands.
At the end of the day, good local bike culture needs good local bike shops. Tag your favorite shops that are doing great work in their community!

Boutique local bike shops should be experts in what they do, and be okay not to do everything. Potential customers should benefit from your knowledge, selection, and local community support. That is what separates you from a buy now button.
Now that I’m back on the consumer/media/bike shop side of the bike industry, there are so many brands still leaving money (and customer love) on the table!
Customer service doesn’t have to be so hard, just be a good human.
Over here building a better bike industry and making it a more inviting space.

20 years in the bike industry and this still confuses me.

As adults, we often overestimate how much time and space is needed and then fill the void.
We stopped making daily life an adventure and more a todo list we are rushing through.
Enjoy the errands. Have fun with your bike and that chicken coop that always needs something.
Stop filling the space and start enjoying it.
