at Bookseller Around The Corner. The BACKSTORY on CLEARSTORY

MY PASSION for the power of story can be traced back to my southern roots where porches and fireside gatherings were the theatre stage of the day. The ride through the countryside to visit Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and a bevy of cousins in my mother’s ’63 Bonneville convertible magnified that experience. The sound of the announcer’s voice filtering through the moonlit night from the ‘magic box’ was mesmerizing. Year’s later journalism and radio broadcasting made a serious impression on the this young high school student who was intent on producing award-winning radio programs at an early age. Ahh, such seriousness at a young age won me a small scholarship in Journalism and my life in Radio continued as I produced the local news and learned the in’s and out’s of live radio at a college station. (Including how to officially NOT pronounce Thailand on the air.) This is also the experience where much of my Southern accent was professionally erased by well-meaning Professors preparing me for a national career. Little did they know that the future held other plans and that other forms of Storytelling would soon capture my time and talent. After writing plays, four novels, and a collection of essays I still couldn’t leave the airwaves behind. Somehow, the magic for me calls and continues. For the past three years I've collected authors and all manner of creative souls to share their stories on the radio. Today, Clearstory Radio combines a passion for the written word and love of the ‘magic box’. In the end it’s all about the story, where we find it, what inspires it, how to write it, and why our passionate celebration of the word must continue. Each Clearstory Studio session includes interviews with best-selling and newly discovered writing talents and has featured such notable authors as Clyde Edgerton, Terry Kay, Barry Eisler, Janis Owens, Joshilyn Jackson, JT Ellison, Tasha Alexander, Silas House and many others. Mandy Haynes and I have been cooking up some stories!

For all those who love the power of story, to hear authors sharing about their work and have been checking this page I've been amiss not to get something up each week. I've also started the Podcast but not linked yet but will do so. This way if you miss the live show which of course features all the cool music you can at least listen to the interviews and author chats on the podcast! On my short list to do! Thanks for following and tuning in!
