This is a very special one, so I’m going to leave you with the full story below. Don’t forget that We Wah 25 is out now. Just check the 🔗🌲 in the buy-oh. Have a good night tonight everyone x

About thirty years ago, music teacher and budding producer Alex Boyesen found himself working as part of the Haringey Music Workshop – a community programme and outreach project funded by the local council in Haringey, North London (coincidentally the area in which the Wah Wah head office is now based!).

It was during that time that Alex came across a young Sam Edwards.

“One day I went into one of the rehearsal rooms and there, by herself, was this girl playing a piano and singing. It was the most incredible voice I had ever heard.”

Before long, the pair were playing all over London as a duo with Alex on guitar and Sam on vocals

The Haringey Music workshop was connected with other projects in the borough, in particular a community project called the Selby Centre. Here they ran training programs for young people and one of these was a music business course. The idea was that they found an artist, recorded them and then promoted them. One way or the other they ended up picking Alex and Sam to be on their roster.

Three decades later and out of the blue Alex started to get interest again in the record he’d almost forgotten about all those years ago. It had become something of a sought after gem on Discogs, and there seemed to be an interest in that ‘acoustic soul’ sound once again.

It was Hospital Records and Wah Wah 45s founder, Chris Goss, who first brought the idea of releasing this record to the table.

The project was then expanded by Dom Servini, who got heavy disco legend Ashley Beedle and co-label owner and erstwhile producer Adam Scrimshire in to take on remix duties.

Our penultimate offering from the We Wah 25 compilation, celebrating a quarter of a century of our little label, is possibly one of the most beautiful pieces of music we’ve ever released. and forged the idea of a collaboration, a meeting of minds, a joining of musical streams, many years ago, but only this year did come to fruition in the form of a complete album. The Confluence LP, featuring a plethora of very special musicians from across the musical spectrum, is something we’re very proud of releasing, and every song on it is a highly original work of art. Mo Ṣe B’ọ́lá Tán, though, is something very special indeed and seems to resonate with music lovers across the board. As Dele himself puts it “Mo Ṣe B’ọ́lá Tán’ is an acceptance and acknowledgement of our individual creativity, shining through in spite of the vicissitudes of life.”

We Wah 25 is out now in all the usual places. Check the 🔗🌲 in the buy-oh for more details, and tune in tomorrow for a little about the final selection from the comp!

Today’s selection from our We Wah 25 compilation comes from the musical mind of bass player and beloved family member My Beautiful City is a collaboration with our very own on vocals and percussion and is a rare downtempo delight from Suman’s .music project and the debut LP, Take To The Streets. Despite it’s sweet feeling though, the track retains all of the political messaging that runs throughout the Eparapo album, here dealing with the breakdown of communities, erosion of culture and the cost of living crisis that forces people from their home towns, due to corporate greed.

My Beautiful City is out now on We Wah 25. One of 32 tracks on this celebration of the label’s landmark birthday. Grab your copy now via the 🔗🌲 in the buy-oh!

As well as releasing three albums, a ten year compilation, a remix album project with and countless edits and remixes, Adam also found the time to release two volumes of Forgotten Songs, taken from the writing and recording process of making his second LP, The Hollow.

Sonolo is the lead track from Volume One of Forgotten songs, and is a string laiden, bass and keys heavy slice of gorgeousness that fits perfectly on We Wah 25 - a celebration of the label to which Scrimshire was such a vital part of for so long.

You can grab We Wah 25 right now. Just head to the 🔗🌲 in the buy-oh!

TALC.. the Talking And Laughing Company.. blue-eyed soul heroes, yacht rock vagabonds, The Doobies meet The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah band.. In the early 2000s, session players and musical geniuses and came together to form what started out as a tongue in cheek take on the music of Zapp, Steely Dan, Hall & Oates and co, performing in seedy late night working men’s clubs and joined on stage by fellow squires for hire with such pseudonyms as Bobby Fame, Noir Le Blanche and, who could forget, Simply J**z.

On hearing their first demo, the tale of a forbidden human-computer love between woman and machine, in the shape of the original version of Modern Sleepover (with thanks to ) we knew we had do share their shamelessly juvenile yet sophisticated musical joy with the world, and before long, the song was released on 10-inches of wax, and was getting props from the likes of and

The debut album, Sit Down Think, dropped in 2006, and was followed by the publican’s concept album, Licenced Premises Lifestyle, two years later. In between, as part of the set up for their sophomore LP, Talc dropped the second part of the love story between computer and owner - Modern Sleepover Part 2 - subtitled Robot’s Return.

Many years later the track was picked up by none other than for his DJ Kicks compilation, and that kick started another wave of popularity for this sadly now defunct soft rock outfit. We still managed to squeeze more Talc joy out on Wah Wah 45s though, just a couple of years ago, with previously Japan-only track De Gui Ding being released on 12-inches of wax alongside reworks from and both parts of the Modern Sleepover story.

Robot’s Return now features on We Wah 25, celebrating a quarter of a century of our beloved label, and you can cop all 32 tracks right now via the 🔗🎄 in the buy-oh! Enjoy x
