chusetts based cable show ‘Rawk Tawk with John Totaro’. “We did a show a week for four years focusing on New England’s original rock music scene. Guests included the Who’s Who of Boston Rock…Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie),Duke Levine (Martin Sexton/Graham Parker), Ted Drozdowski (Scissormen); Chris Trapper (Push Stars); Aimee Man; Willie Alexander (Velvet Underground) to name a few”. John Totaro has written and released 7 CDs to date and has performed 100’s of times throughout the USA as well as in Europe & Japan. Totaro has shared the stage with notables such as Cheap Trick, Joan Jett, Simon Kirke (Bad Company) Gregg Allman and Cracker. His CD ‘Vice Presidential Pardons’ was produced by David Lowery of Cracker. Totaro is currently working on tracks for his 8th CD release which will be out in 2014. For two years I co-hosted ‘Polluted Airwaves’ a Charleston-based Internet radio show with comedian Dusty Slay for CofCRadio. I then teamed up with College of Charleston’s Professor Emeritus Paul Allen and did ‘Maggie’s Farm,’ a weekly Internet radio show that focused on the music and words of Bob Dylan.
“Kinetic HiFi Radio is the best radio happening in Charleston,” Totaro said during a recent telephone interview. He continued, “Commercial radio, chasing large advertising dollars, has moved away from on-air personalities and frankly you can go into the stations and it is hard to find anyone. It is all automated and there are certainly no CD’s around”. Totaro chuckles, “While Kinetic HiFi Radio is totally state of the art it is all about old school radio. Personalities, spontaneity, playing music by unsigned acts alongside famous ones”.
