A Rose Grows In Spanish Harlem is a coming of age story about a half Black, half Puerto Rican girl whose father is a pimp, and mother is a pr******te, and whose caretaker and confidante is a drag queen. The show addresses “the Higher Purpose” question of “who am I and what am I going to do with my life.” Although universal in nature, the show places an important yet seldom seen emphasis on Latino

culture and community. This is a comedy that weaves laughter and tenacity throughout each act with a silken thread. Skillfully incorporated into the play’s theme is Helen Keller’s message: “the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart. “
