Kevin Boyd – Film Producer
I started, like so many people, by getting lost in films when I was a kid growing up in the 1970’s on the rainy west coast of Scotland. The first movie to have an impact was Star Wars in 1977, that opening shot of the battle cruiser flying past the camera, ”for ever”, made me want to learn how to do that. Then in 1981 I saw Gregory’s Girl, a film shot in my local area a
nd I suddenly realised that people like me could make films too! I then spent the next 30 years practicing at making films. First on my home computer, generating crude 8-bit computer animations and recording them to VHS tape. Then working in the early days of interactive media and shooting on simple sets with Betacam tape and putting them on 30 minute Laserdiscs for training purposes in the late 1980’s. When my son Simon turned up in 1992 I had to capture the whole thing so I bought a Video 8 camera and spent the next 16 years making mini-documentaries about our life together until my son said “stop”! In 2006 I went to film school and learned everything I could about composition and cameras, just as everything was moving from analogue to digital and after completing my first ever very short film of just one minute long, I formed Federated Films to bring together talented people to create films of all sorts both drama and commercial. And now here in 2015 I am ready for the next scene to begin. I am investing in my first ever feature film and my film making skills are at a level that I can now finally say I too am a filmmaker ☺
