Image description: This composite image of multiple exposures shows the progression of a total solar eclipse over Dallas, Texas, on Monday, April 8, 2024.
At the center of this long, narrow band of images is totality: the moment when the Moon completely covers the Sun, leaving only a dramatic ring of white and pink wisps extending out into space. On either side of totality are five images of the Sun, obscured by an increasing amount of the Moon on the left, and a decreasing amount on the right.
This total solar eclipse swept across a narrow portion of the North American continent from Mexico’s Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada. A partial solar eclipse was visible across the entire North American continent along with parts of Central America and Europe. 🤩
