For day 9 we are featuring the queen of contemporary City Pop and AOR, 一十三十一 (Hitomitoi). Even though she debuted in 2004, she came to international popularity with her 2012 neo-City Pop album City Dive, featuring her hit Dive. The song we are featuring today,Catch Me in the Snow, comes from her 2014 album ‘Snowbank Social Club.’ Snowbank Social Club is a concept album revolving around themes of winter in Japan, with her extended music video taking place at a ski resort.
As of recent Hitomitoi has worked closely with Kashif, Dorian and LUVRAW, who have helped define her sound. She has worked with the cult favorite band Ryusenkei on the soundtrack to the 2020 Japanese drama タリオ 復讐代行の2人 (Revenge Agents Duo).

For Day 2 we are featuring Sweet Rumors by Remedios, from the classic romance film Love Letter (1995). The film is about Hiroko Watanabe, played by singer and actress Miho Nakayama, and her journey on finding closure after her fiancé Itsuki Fujii tragically died in a mountain climbing accident. On the two-year anniversary of her fiancé’s death Hiroko decides to write a letter to where Itsuki used to live, and surprisingly gets a response.
The film was a hit in Japan upon release and also became widely popular in South Korea, where it was one of the first Japanese films to be shown in Korea since World War II.
The soundtrack, composed by Reimy Horikawa but better known as Remedios, created a beautiful and nostalgic soundtrack about someone remembering and also finding closure in a loved one that has passed away too soon. Sweet Rumors is one of the soundtrack’s iconic songs and used in the trailers.
