November 1st marks the beginning of the Taller Books adventure. Author Rachel Churcher marks the occasion:

It's November 1st, which means it is a staggering SEVEN YEARS since this determined, loyal, brave young lady walked into my head and told me to follow her, as she had something to show me. That first day of novel writing grew (and grew, and grew ...) into an eight-book series, and an indie writing and editing career that I love.

What have I learned?
❤️ When life gives you redundancy from a job you actually enjoy, give yourself permission to spend the next month attempting to write a novel.
❤️ Listen to your proofreaders – if they want more information about a relatively minor character from Book One, this might be the sign you need to make her into the official antagonist and dual-POV narrator for the rest of the series. (Be careful – she might just become your favourite ... 😊 ).
❤️ Go with your gut – a UK-based YA dystopia is not the story I thought I would be writing, but it's the story that took shape as I followed my MC and wrote her world into being. It's clear that this is the story I wanted to read.
❤️ Have the courage to write badly, tell yourself the story without limits, and save the edits for later.

I'm still learning. After eight books in the Battle Ground Series, a standalone LGBTQ+ novel, and a geeky picture book, I'm still learning about writing, plotting, and editing, as well as publishing, marketing, and reaching readers. 'Battle Ground' won two international awards in 2020, and 'Angels' has been a finalist and semi-finalist in two international awards so far this year, so now I have some rather high standards to live up to for the next book!

I'd love to write another YA novel next year, before my editing and festival organising kicks in again. Wish me luck, fingers crossed, and another huge THANK YOU to Bex, MC of my first ever novel, for showing me around the inside of my own head seven whole years ago.
