The No-Bypass Coffee Trend: Bypass isn't a "problem". It is to be expected and happens with pretty much every brewer thats not designed to stop it. You can make amazing coffee even when a good amount of bypass is happening in your brew. That's why in this video I call it the "tiniest problem" and tounge-in-cheek refer to it as a "nightmare" lol. This no-bypass concept, however, focuses on stopping bypass for the sake of a more efficient and controllable extraction. No-bypass brewers don't necessarily always make better coffee, but I've had some really tasty coffees brewed on them. Every so often in the coffee industry, everyone gets really excited about a new concept, trick, method of brewing, and a good amount of resources go into designing products with those concepts in mind. Oftentimes we get some really cool gear released as a result of those trends. But that doesn't make the trend of the moment the end-all be-all of coffee brewing. No-Bypass seems to be a big trend right now when it comes to filter coffee, and I think it's cool to see the coffee professionals (coffee nerds) put effort into designing cool brewers for it like the ones shown in this video. Also, I know the Aeropress wasn’t designed specifically to solve for bypass. I’m just pointing out here that it did, and it seems that future no-bypass brewers borrowed from its design.
