In addition to the perfect views of the "Snow Moon," tonight offers a great opportunity to see the "Starlink Satellite Train." These satellites provide global internet coverage, and can sometimes reflect sunlight as they orbit Earth, allowing us to see them for a brief period of time in our sky. Look for a glowing string of lights around 6:47 PM. They will be visible for about 5 minutes, traversing the sky from northwest to southeast.

The Full "Snow Moon" will rise on Saturday at around 6PM. With perfectly clear skies expected, it will be perfect viewing conditions. It is also known as the “Black Bear Moon” and the "Bald Eagle Moon" by some Native American communities. This full moon is a “micromoon,” which is the opposite of a “supermoon.” The moon’s orbit is not a perfect circle, and at this time, it is at its furthest point from Earth. This point in its orbit is called "apogee." Thus, the moon appears smaller and less bright in its full phase on Saturday. Happy viewing!

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! If you're traveling to see family in the area, the weather will cooperate right through Christmas Day. As a matter of fact, the clouds may break by sunset tomorrow! If it stays clear enough, you may catch a glimpse of the 99%-full "Cold" moon, set to rise around 3:30PM tomorrow. Direct your attention to the northeast skies at that time for a Christmas treat!

Ever wonder how the "northern lights" (also known as "aurora borealis") form? Did you know they also occur in the Southern Hemisphere and are called "aurora australis" there? And did you know they're not always green? With a particularly strong geomagnetic storm currently underway, I figured now would be a great time to explain. 🌌☀️

The full moon is coming up on Sunday night into Monday morning! It's called the “Buck Moon” because the bucks begin regrowing their antlers at this time. It is a supermoon—which means it’s in its full phase at the closest part of its orbit to the Earth (or its perigee). Although it’s about 7% bigger than average, you won’t really notice. What you will notice is that it’s nearly 16% brighter than an average-sized full moon! 🌕

UPDATES: wnep.com/forecast
As a cold front passes through, a line of storms is becoming invigorated with additional energy as it marches through the Southern Tier, Wyoming Valley, and up into the Northern Tier. The "rain faucet" will shut off after the midnight hour for most, and after 3AM for Wayne County. Expect more showers tomorrow, but more spotty in nature. Low temperatures overnight Monday into Tuesday may support some *snowflakes* on our hilltops in Central Pennsylvania and in our Northern Tier. Be prepared!

Now that spring has arrived, our winter will not be one to remember...we received less than half the average amount of total snowfall for the season this year. ❄️ And because of the mild conditions, cherry blossoms are in bloom weeks early, and the allergy season will be prolonged this year. 🤧
