Sad, sad day.

I went to see Civil War on Friday.

I liked it but I expected to see something much more jarring for all the hype. Like I wanted to be shaken by the idea of a modern civil war after watching this movie. Call me jaded or desensitized but I think it could have hit much harder. I’m going to guess that was because while it was A24s biggest budget movie it was still low for the scale of the events. I’m not saying I needed more war or even all the dirty details of the backstory. I just wish the moments that you move along the story felt a little fuller in scale. Too many scenarios of just a few people doing their evil or ambiguous thing. This makes it hard in my opinion to sell how bad the overall civil war is because it says, look at these guys and how lost they are. It doesn’t say, look at this whole town or whole unit and how lost it is in this mess. Because if it’s only a few guys they are outliers but when it’s a crowd or a mob it’s us as a society that are now lost. That’s how you shock people by pointing a finger and saying this could be all of you very easily. So without that scale of a bigger budget you can’t fill those scenes in. You do get some sense of the scale and there are a few big battles which were great. But I think the effectiveness of the let’s not be in such a hurry for a modern civil war message is diminished when events feel isolated. Or easily dismissed as caused by the few crazies these events always bring out. It was a great movie visually and the sound was on point. It looked great and the idea of war correspondent road trip was great. A little confusing as to how they kept ending up in their scenarios, a little context as to how maybe they were traveling along the line of contact like because it was the only route would have helped give that more logic. Too much random s**t happening in areas that are technically supposed to be away from the front lines. Unless the idea is that outside of the major cities the rule of law is basically gone. Which could have been explained a bit while keeping to the overall theme of ambiguity the film wanted to keep. I say go see it, draw your own conclusions. It’s not a war movie, it’s a journalists on a road trip movie taking place near a war until the end when it plops you right into the thick of it. People die and do terrible things to each other but it could have been more impactful if the idea was to remind us why we don’t want this kind of thing to happen in real life.

There were lots of victims that day but there were also heroes.

The 23-year-old French-Israeli citizen Eli Ghnassia fought against a large group of Hamas terrorists for 8 hours, trying to defend Kibbutz Be'eri where 100+ civilians were massacred.

In the end, he lost his life with weapon in hand, but not before saving many lives.

Hamas started shooting at them

He drove to an Israeli Army base, but it had been overran by terrorists, who started firing at them again

He kept driving. 2h later, IDF reached them

He saved 8 ppl, but died from his wounds.

Something to ponder as you watch these airsoft “leaders/celebs/influencer” pi***ng matches unfold online. And yes I know the phrase airsoft celeb/influencer is cringy as hell these days.

This is why you should be absolutely skeptical of the product reviews you see on YouTube. Always ask two questions:
1) Is everything they review great with little negatives? If so that means they could be worried about upsetting the manufacturer and hurting their relationship with them.
2) Are their comparison videos bias to one of the products compared? If so that means they have a relationship or incentive to promote one of the products being compared.
Either way with both questions you end up getting information that just isn’t honest or genuine. Beyond the stealing of ExFogs product design/function in my opinion which NOVRITSCH should be ashamed of. Their friend went the extra mile to make a video that purposely makes ExFogs product look as bad as possible by using a several year old unit with some components no longer used. Everyone knows in order to do an honest review you go head to head on brand new products coming out of the box. It’s like comparing your brand new DJI action cam with a GoPro action cam several generations old and saying look how much GoPro sucks compared to my brand new out of the box DJI. The reviewer was obviously bias and dishonest from what I saw. Hell, he admitted to being a designer on the product he’s reviewing. It sucks that ExFog has to go out there and set the record strait on crap like that.
What stake do I have in this fight?
Absolutely ZERO. I don’t own products from either company. The only fans I’ve ever used were the ESS fan googles back in the day.

Spartan117GW isn’t wrong and Jet does seem to be pulling a Will Smith on the guy. I don’t agree with all of Greg’s politics but he’s more right than wrong for sure these days and differences in opinions don’t have to make people enemies. There seems to be a big rush to stand with or against people when the middle ground is where we should be looking to live together. It’s always good to have airsoft talked about positively in circles outside of airsoft. That’s how it gains greater acceptance and brings more people in.
Now ask yourself, does the ESPN article achieve that cause of growing or promoting the hobby positively?
You can decide for yourself and derive your own opinion from it.
It is sad to see a long time friendship go to s**t over a difference in opinion. Friends until you disagree is really a think these days I guess.

I’ve been busy with life and dad stuff these days folks but I do still pay attention to some of what’s going on in airsoft. Here’s my shortest opinion and probably something you should think about when choosing your heroes or leaders in the hobby of airsoft. The loudest voice or the one claiming the greatest clout isn’t automatically right. Think for yourself and remember it’s just a game in a hobby that is meant to be fun. You can leave your politics at the door when you hit the field of play this weekend. This country has enough divisiveness as it is these days. Your airsoft leaders shouldn’t be promoting more division because they have a long time chip on their shoulder with the core of airsoft and its big brother industry. If this post offends you go look in the mirror because that’s where you’ll find the real problem. That’s just the opinion of this random guy these days. Back to dad stuff and maybe I’ll see you on the field in the future for a game.

Jimmy “Pope” Campbell was a true giant amongst men and the airsoft community was made better for having him involved. Third Coast Airsoft have organized a memorial patch with proceeds going to his family. This is a noble gesture and a great way to remember an honorable man. You should definitely pick one up.

So many in the Airsoft World knew Pope, others knew him outside of airsoft, Jimmy was one of the best. A solid ear, life advice with humor, a great dude. When Bryan Slater from Tacticool offered to do a limited memorial patch design with the proceeds going to the Campbell Family, the TCA Team and Players we spoke to, jumped at this opportunity to remember him in their own way.

Well Sladies and Gents I wanted to personally thank each and everyone that has supported OWT these last 6 years! It has been an amazing journey and I will hold every memory I had with all the players!! It has come time to step away and focus on a new opportunity that has come to light!
