One of the lesser known saints we have featured in our SAINTS lineup is St. Moses the Strong.

He also goes by the titles of, "St. Moses the Black" or "St. Moses the Ethiopian." He is NOT Moses from the Book of Exodus, but a 4th century monk.

His life is similar to that of St. Augustine (whose feast he shares), as both were sinners turned saint.

Forced into slavery at an early age, St. Moses felt powerless, a feeling that he tried to overcome through his physical strength. It led him to seek power over others, stealing from everyone who crossed his path.

Then one day he discovered a community of poor monks in the Egyptian desert who possessed no material treasures. The encounter shocked St. Moses to the core, opening his heart up to a different way of life, where strength was found in self-surrender and sacrifice.

Summer vacation is over and school is now in session. Sister Colleen and Sister Maureen are ready to welcome you back to class!

Created by Bill O’Malley and continued by Joe Lane, Two Little Nuns features a hilarious collection of cartoons highlighting everyday moments from parochial schools across America during the 1950s.

These cartoons have been enjoyed by thousands of readers over the years and provide a comical glimpse into the lives of Catholic sisters that everyone can enjoy.

Digitally remastered, this volume includes cartoons previously found in Two Little Nuns, More Little Nuns and Our Little Nuns.

While the cartoons primarily highlight the humorous encounters they have at a local parish school, they also offer a unique look into the religious life.

What I personally find enjoyable about these cartoons is how human these nuns (and occasionally priests) are depicted. Sometimes we can get an erroneous picture in our mind that religious sisters are boring, stoic individuals who pray all day, every day.

What these cartoons remind us is that religious sisters can have fun too, and often they have a hilarious sense of humor.

If St. Maximilian Kolbe were a superhero.....

While we love highlighting real-life heroes and creating comic books on saints, we also equally enjoy creating fictional characters inspired by our favorite saints.

One of our most popular superheroes (especially among young boys), is Medal Knight. He is a brainy college student who loves knights and robots in 1920s Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Kolbe's example of Christian charity has always been an inspiration to me, but what surprised me when I started to dig deeper into his life was his fascination with technology and space travel.

One of his classmates in seminary later explained how he was enamored with the Wright Brothers and the aerodynamics of flying. He was often seen by his fellow seminarians sketching drawings of spacecraft in his spare time, filling the margins of his theology notebooks.

In the biography A Man for Others: Maximilian Kolbe, Bronislaus Strycznys explained, “Already, he anticipated the possibility of reaching the moon with a rocket and he thought of many other unusual inventions.”

I thought it was the perfect opportunity to create a fictional superhero inspired by this saint and to pair superhero battles with supplemental text that explores the life of this Polish priest.

Last week I touched on the reality (in my blog) that we are living in a great Story, and that we are all challenged to be the HERO.

Well, just like any hero, there is a BATTLE to fight.

The problem is that typically this battle is invisible to human eyes, but just because we can't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

In fact, this battle has been ongoing for thousands of years and will not end until our world passes away.

St. Paul put it succinctly:

“Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground” (Ephesians 6:11-13).

Yet, some of us might ask WHY we need to fight, as we never signed-up to be a soldier, or declared war against anyone.

The reality is that all Christians at their Baptism were drafted into this eternal battle. Either you or your Godparents said the following:

Do you reject Satan? (I do)

And all his works? (I do)

And all his empty promises? (I do)

There you have it! Those very statements put you and your children into the crosshairs of Satan.

We may not realize it, or think that we are very important, but Satan has you and your children (and grandchildren) in his sights.

He wants to do everything he can to bring you and your family down.

We need to accept this fact, and when we do, it bring us to an even greater choice.

Do we fight back?

In the upcoming weeks I hope to continue to this series and to encourage you in the faith to remain steadfast in this fight.

It's one of the reasons why we need the power of STORY to remind us of these spiritual truths. Good stories highlight this reality and then encourage us to pick up our sword and fend off the demonic forces trying to overtake our family.

Whatever you do, don't deny the fact that you are currently in a BATTLE, a battle that has eternal consequences.

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty paints the sad picture, "In 2026, New York passed its Medical Aid in Dying Act, allowing terminally ill adults to obtain lethal drugs to end their lives.

"Yet the law does not merely permit assisted su***de: it also forces healthcare providers across the state into its machinery by creating a 'Su***de Counseling Mandate' that requires New York doctors to counsel their terminally ill patients about the so-called benefits of killing themselves."

This has put many religious orders, such as the Hawthorne Dominicans, an order founded by Rose Hawthorne, into a difficult situation.

The Hawthorne Dominicans specifically minister to the dying, those who are "incurable," helping them feel loved and cared for in the final days of their lives.

The good news is that recently "a federal judge ordered the state not to enforce its assisted-su***de mandate."

This provides temporary relief, as they continue to fight against the state of New York and its unjust law.

The Hawthorne Dominicans have a beautiful mission, one that we fully support. In fact, a portion of all sales of Servant of the Suffering: Rose Hawthorne, goes directly to these holy and heroic Dominican nuns.

If you don't know who St. Edith Stein is (also known as St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross), she was born into a Jewish family and possessed an innate hunger for the truth at a young age, wanting to find answers to some of the most difficult questions in life.

Through God’s providence she was led into the arms of the Catholic Church, where she became a faithful student of the Cross.

She finally found the Truth that she was looking for.

This lead her to embrace an even more austere life of sacrifice, choosing to enter a Carmelite convent, where even her sister would end-up joining her.

Unfortunately, it would not be for long as Hi**er rose to power and all people of Jewish descent were hunted down.

She was taken from the Carmelite convent and sent to the gas chambers at Auschwitz.

Her story is inspiring and is one that we should share with our children and grandchildren. St. Edith Stein reminds us that we all need to seek out the truth and the Truth will set us free.

One of the most defining features of humans that sets us apart from apes is our ability to create masterful pieces of artwork. Your pet dog will simply never be the next Michelangelo.

Furthermore, no matter how much AI can imitate a person’s art style, that piece of machinery simply cannot listen to the Holy Spirit.

It’s not possible.

AI can imitate, but it can’t “create” as God creates, or as He invites His own creation to participate in co-creating in the world today.

If we rely too much on AI to do uniquely human things, we risk losing that ability in the long run. Sure, AI can imitate the Sistine Chapel, but can it imitate the blood, sweat and tears that went into it?

Countless artists were spiritually changed through the process of creating art. When AI takes over our artwork, that path to holiness is gone.

At VOYAGE, we've made it a policy that all of our artwork is created by HUMAN artists. Any artwork you see on our social media or on our website, is created by a human.

This policy is informed by our CATHOLIC faith, and we believe that more Catholics should be against AI generated artwork.

We believe that the ends don't justify the means. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you "should."
