When Grinspoon finally teased the release of their eighth studio album, 'Whatever, Whatever', fans knew they were in for a treat.

This Friday, August 9th, marks its official release, and since the release of the album’s two lead singles, anticipation has built to an all-time high.

But the band aren’t stopping there.

Vocalist Phil Jamieson, guitarist Pat Davern, bassist Joe Hansen, and drummer Kris Hopes are gearing up for a massive 45-date national tour, kicking off in September, and it’s set to be one of their most ambitious endeavours yet.

It has been 12 years since Grinspoon‘s last studio release, 'Black Rabbits', and the journey to 'Whatever, Whatever' has been one of both individual growth and collective synergy. After such an extensive break from the studio, the band members focused on their individual strengths with this record, bringing a renewed energy and creativity to the recording process.

Rolling Stone AU/NZ caught up with Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson and Kris Hopes to find out what fans can expect from this legendary Australian rock band three decades into their career.

Em here:: I've legit got the best team in the world. So bloody smug and lucky to have these legends in my life on the daily, they are genuine lifelong friends - not just work colleagues. It's not lost on me re: just how lucky we are to laugh our way through every damn day and the fact we get to call it work (and with such incredible artists too), makes it even more of a bonus.

Today these guys lavished me in such love for my 40th, it was just so so kind, uber thoughtful and generous. It started when I walked in late and JP popped a bottle of bubbles on entry - I'm talking 10am bubbles!! Then we sipped and chomped on a charcuterie board, followed swiftly by a delish Anya baked 'E' cake. We did a bit of work, then devoured a Fi chicken and leak pot pie (with my name on the tops!!), before sipping cuppas with a Nadia special birthday cake with all the Caramilk (my fave) trimmings ☺️ WHAT A DAY. You know what they say:: always surround yourself with people that... somethin something... feed you charcuterie and bubbles before 10am, and then keep the yums rollin' all day 🤣🥰 Grateful for my fave people and it's a privilege to join the 40s club ❤️ Thanks to all my media and artist pals for the piles of well wishes and love x

Today was magical 💫 we were so lucky to witness the sheer power and connection that music can deliver, as Radical Son chatted and performed songs from his new album BILAMBIYAL (out today) for a stack of Melb media. It's a hugely rare and special thing to be near on 3 decades together as a band and still producing such relevant and awesome music, and playing regular shows... these ripper humans deserve all the acclaim that's landing for this record, and that beaut induction into the WA HALL OF FAME 👌🙌🏼
