After a long day at the doctor, Lennon got to enjoy his first birthday cupcake 🧁 I will post an update on how my post-op appointment went soon, but for tonight I’m going to spend some time with my big one year old 🥹

Christmas Eve! Love that my family did a pajama lunch this year, it made me so much more comfortable while still healing from surgery. Last photo shows what I was hiding under my Mickey Mouse pjs ✌🏻(surgery scars/drain shown, scroll away if you don’t want to see)

Both of these moments lasted all of 20 seconds before they started flailing around, but I’ll take it! Closest I will get to holding my babies for a while ❤️

Got myself dressed and went in public for the first time post-surgery! My daughter’s daycare was doing their Christmas play this morning and there was no way I was missing it. So I threw on my sweats, wore my wound vac like a purse, pinned my JP drain under my shirt, and hobbled in there. I might be hurting a little more today, but it was so worth it ❤️

Finally headed home!!!! 🎉 I am so excited to see my babies. Only 4 hours of driving to go!

Got to FaceTime with my favorite people yesterday before the chaos. Miss my two kiddos so so so much, and so thankful that my amazing husband drove all the way back to the hospital (for a total of 8 hours of driving that day) when I started feeling sick last night.

I am doing much better today. The doctors do not think I am septic after getting blood work back, so that is great news! Hoping to do well over night so I will get to go home soon and see my babies 🤞🏻

Did you know that the large intestine absorbs 90% of the water that you drink? This makes it vital for ostomates like myself to stay hydrated! We have no colon, so other parts of our digestive tract have to pick up the slack!

Some ostomates regularly receive infusions of fluids to make sure they stay hydrated without a colon. While I do periodically need IV fluids, I am normally able to stay hydrated by simply drinking a LOT of water. I usually fill this giant water bottle up twice a day! 💧

Cuddles with my girl are the best medicine 💜

I am currently tapering off of prednisone, and not feeling my best. Lots of leg cramps, headaches, stomach pain, etc. Prednisone is the absolute worst, and I always struggle tapering off of it!

Luckily I have the best little cuddle bug to keep me company, and she makes me feel like a million bucks! 🥰

Its bag change day! This is an updated video showing how I change my ostomy bag. I do this every 2-3 days!

41 days left until my hernia repair surgery! I CAN’T WAIT!! 😋

I am someone who always strives to live life to the fullest, soaking in every moment, and never letting my illness stop me from enjoying the people I love. That said, sometimes it can be difficult to truly live “in the moment” when simply feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. I try my best to remain confident, but it is difficult at times. Having a hernia the size of a watermelon can draw some puzzled looks and confused stares. I feel myself missing out on making memories with my family because I am too self conscious to leave the house, or when we do, I am worried about what others are thinking the whole time.

That isn’t to mention the physical pain that I am in as well. It hurts to lift my daughter up for a hug, or to run across the backyard with her. It hurts to give my son a bath, or to lift him into his crib. I have missed out on SO MUCH these last few months.

Never thought I would be looking forward to having major surgery, but here we are! I am ready to feel like myself again. I can’t wait to make lots more memories with the people I love, and to make up for some lost time as well.

41 days, and then we begin recovery 💜

When I was 21, I was told that I would most likely never be able to carry a pregnancy. A doctor said one of my ovaries was very small, and that I might be entering early menopause due to the years of malnutrition and sickness I endured because of my Crohn’s disease.

I had only had my ostomy for a short time, and had no idea the difference it would make in my health and in my life.

When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I was shocked and terrified. How could this messed up body carry a baby? But it did, and then 22 months after she was born, my body did it again with a son.

I believe wholeheartedly that my ostomy gave me my kids. Without my ostomy, I could never have been healthy enough to carry my two perfect babies. This memory, and so many other precious memories, I credit to my ostomy.

Happy Halloween 🎃
