So a few weeks ago I was in Africa, specifically a few weeks in Namibia and a half day in Soweto, South Africa.
When I returned I discussed the trip with Jason Navarro when The Boreouts came through Atlanta. He mentioned a documentary called Punk in Africa (2012. you can find it through your streaming services) He also mentioned a specific band from Soweto in the documentary called National Wake.
After watching the documentary I tracked down music by National Wake as well as a bunch of other African bands mentioned in the show (340ml, Fruits and Veggies, The Rudimentals, Leek and the Bouncing Uptones, Hog Hoggidy Hog, FUZIGISH, and The Genuines)
I then matched those bands with Mr. Review, Big D and the Kids Table, THE CRABS CORPORATION, Crabhammer, Sunny Coast Rude Boys, Coolie Ranx, Mighty Mighty Bosstones & The Skatalites and put together a show.

The long running joke has been that Taylor Swift should record a ska album. Over time a few ska bands have covered Taylor, and although I was never a swiftee, after hearing many of those covers, I can safely say that she is one hell of a songwriter. No, I am not playing any Taylor Swift on my show, but am playing a block of those covers mentioned along with their opposite.
