Neighborhoods all over the city have set up stations to feed linemen lunch and provide them with cooling stations and cold drinks. In a city with close to 6 million people, there has been one confirmed incident of a man brandishing a weapon and everyone in Houston called him an idiot. Not one person blames linemen or tree trimmers but rather upper management at #Centerpoint who didn’t have crews ready to go as soon as Monday evening. This isn’t the time to lie for clout or likes. It’s Day 9 in 100-degree weather. Mosquitoes are the size of flies and we have all spent a mortgage on generators and gasoline. He used his platform to tell unverified lies and go #Viral instead of educating Houstonians on why it’s taking so long to restore power. Although he’s excited, this will be a new experience for Lennox. He is going from being an only child to being a big brother with new expectations placed on him. 4. It was an honor to join the @AsOneFoundation family yesterday as Mayor John Whitmire and Council Member Alcorn presented them with a proclamation making February 26th “The As One Foundation Day in Houston, Texas.” As One started as a way to honor Devaughn Darling, twin to Retired Wide Receiver Devard Darling, who died suddenly during a college football practice at Florida State in 2001. He died due to dehydration, physical overexertion, and complications as a sickle cell trait carrier. The As One Foundation is a Texas-based sickle cell organization, a patient and caregiver advocate, and an education resource. #SickleCell is not a black and brown disease, it is a blood disease. Two years ago, the U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Places to Live” ranking for 2023-2024 stated “A paycheck goes further in Houston than it does in other major metro areas, with affordable housing and free or cheap attractions like biking along Buffalo Bayou and exploring the 7,800-acre George Bush Park. The affordability of this region, which is located in southeastern Texas and home to more than 7 million residents in the metro area, is attracting new people from across the country and around the world.” Houston was ranked number 39 when that report came out; today Houston ranks number 140. I lost an amazing friend to disease I knew little about when I was around 19. Since then, I personally made it a goal to educate myself on HIV & AIDS.
