top tips for downward facing dog 🐶
i think downdog gets forgotten about sometimes bc it’s such a foundational pose that the ego gets in the way of making adjustments
if your hamstrings are tight walk the feet closer to the hands even put a little bend in the knees
press your chest back towards your thighs keeping your ears in line with your arms so you don’t arch the back
pull your rib cage together tucking the pelvis forward / under
think of spinning the elbow creases in and forward to allow the shoulders to externally rotate and stay engaged

pratyahara- withdrawal of senses
this involves withdrawing the senses from external stimuli and turning attention inward- fostering greater control over one’s mind
but i think an important part of this inner work is not to withdraw or ignore the senses it’s to withdrawal from the attachment to the senses
we attach ourselves so often to external stimuli allowing these things to control how we feel or how we react
pratyahara is the practice of withdrawing from the attachment to the senses allowing the senses to still be there passing by - and deep down we’re creating this heightened sense of awareness to our mastery of the mind

helpful cues in forearm stand -
these have all been game changers for me!!!
-stack / shift shoulders to stack over your elbows, a lot of the time we don’t shift forward far enough to gain weight / pressure in the forearms leaving us weak or wobbly
-press up and out of the shoulders not letting them shrug / drop, this helps with creating the muscle needed to support yourself in forearm stand
-keep the core tight pulling rib cage together as you kick up so you don’t dump into the low back

land the ball of your foot first keeping stability in your core and ankle then land the heel of your foot so the toes are pointed out

from goddess simultaneously plant your hands to the mat, lift your hips up and turn your toes in and heels out to come into a wide leg fold

what yoga means to me
i haven’t thought about this honestly in a long time
i spent most of this year on auto pilot just going through the motions no matter how hard i tried i just felt like i couldn’t get a grasp on things
even my practice i would come and go not thinking much at all but i think that’s why i love this practice so much because you can show up as you are no matter what and no one has to know how you feel off your mat
connecting to this knowing of showing up as you are on your mat is freeing and is slowly grounding me again- that’s what yoga means to me 🕊️
