— AZUSA RED DOT 2 DAY AIWB 2024 —

What an experience! Thankful to these guys for entrusting me with their resources, time, and most importantly their minds. Undoubtedly, I learned from yall as much as I taught yall.

As my first traveling class, I had no idea what to expect - but this wasn’t it. I thought at the very least, this would look like herding cats - but NAWWW. Aaron, Chris, Kenny, Nick, and Matt… yall made this as smooth as it could possibly go. I really do have to thank you guys for giving your best at not only absorbing the information at a theoretical level, but also putting your best effort in breaking old habits and hardwiring new, more efficient means of shooting.

I’m absolutely confident from what I’ve seen that each of you are about to experience a dramatic acceleration in your shooting journeys but ONLY IF you continue to improve upon the foundation we’ve worked so hard this past weekend to build. My best advice to you is to continue to give yourselves grace. As you are training, focus on learning, diagnosing, implementing, and executing and I can almost guarantee you will continue to experience those lightbulb moments you had in class but in your own sessions.

Y’all are apart of the family now and I’m absolutely privileged to be a part of your sagas. Thank you and see y’all again soon!

—TAKE ME HIGHER—

is a man I’ve wanted to learn from ever since I first picked up the pistol, 3 years ago. This man is obsessed with the details, and it shows in how he came up with solutions to shooting problems. What I found fascinating about JJ’s knowledge and shooting is (with all due respect) there’s nothing fancy. EVERYTHING is extremely simple but executed EXTREMELY well and consistently. There is no waste. Period.

I’ve taken away exactly what I wanted from this course, and have a clear roadmap for how to improve my shooting from here on.

It also never fails to disappoint, how many motivated and friendly dudes there are, who encourage one another to excel. I look forward to seeing y’all again very soon.

Accountability.

Welcome to the Range Report! I wanted to start posting something a little more frequent, that would allow me to keep track of my progress and keep me accountable with my ammo use and time (most important). To maximize efficiency at the range, I’ve been prepping the week prior with a SINGLE core principle of shooting that I want to improve, and I dry fire around that, INTENTIONALLY.

After a week of priming myself to practice what I’ve been doing dry, I’ll use my weekly range day to experiment and see if what I’ve been trying will yield the results I desire, live. If it works, then I’ll continue pounding in those findings until they’re habit. If it doesn’t work, I’ll pivot. The whole point is to obtain actionable data.

I also thought this would be a great way to share some drills and ideas for y’all to incorporate in your own range days (IF you want).

This is Range Report #1 and this week's focus was doubles at distance. My support hand pressure, or my deficiency in that department, became obvious to me here. I hope you enjoy watching me both fail and win in this new series 💪🏻

Hard Skills.

Shoutout to for hosting and also their podcast episode where and talk about mastering hard skills (just knowing how to shoot) prior to a tactics class. When your brain is being flooded with all this new circumstantial knowledge of what to do and then, what’s acceptable cover, awkward shooting positions, new safe handling protocols - you don’t have the mental bandwidth to figure out how to shoot. The shooting aspect must be AUTOMATIC. .

VCQB by was direct proof that hard skills and fundamentals of shooting must be locked down PRIOR to learning tactics, otherwise safety and efficient knowledge retention can both be compromised (ask me how I know).

Despite this being my first tactics class, I found myself excelling since hitting the target efficiently, safely, and consistently was almost second nature. I simply had one job: to tactically position my body and then business as usual.
