Bits of Imperfection Welcome to Bits of Imperfection/Bits of I! Here I create digital laser files for the world’s makers. Hi there! Why "Bits of Imperfection" you ask?
(2)

I'm Heather; wife, mother of three, home educator, letterer, laser woodworker and founder of Bits of Imperfection. Well, life is just flat-out imperfect. But on a professional level, I have always strived for 'perfection' when it comes to my work, and very quickly found that using natural materials such as wood does not allow for absolute 'perfection'. Natural "flaws" (ie: knots, rogue woodgrain,

varying color tone) are abundant, but can actually be what make such items so unique and charming. In truth, there is not much character in uniformity, and that is what I love most about my work. Although the same process and materials may be used for any one specific design, we all put our individuality into what we do and not a single creation made using my files will be 100% exactly the same as another. Thank you for visiting and I look forward to serving you!

Next up, Father’s Day!

These photo frame files are designed for 4x4 polaroid photos, but can easily be sized up or down. Attach a magnet to the back to make it practical, or even a visor car clip attachment for your guys on the go to be reminded their sweet, littlest fans.

With several name options included for the “Moon & Back” design, it’s a simple giftable to all the fathers in your life. 💙

Permanent markers are a great option for coloring in intricate designs on wood. It’s one of my go-to’s for my file samples and you should definitely try it sometime!

My daughter and I sat down to color these beauties. 😍

What’s my favorite part of creating SVG files?

It’s probably a toss-up between assembly (seeing the project come together) and photography.

My least favorite part is sitting on my 🍑 for hours while I draw, letter, and design. That and unmasking my pieces post-cut. 😅

All things considering, this ain’t a bad gig.

Does anyone just straight-up post anymore? If it’s not a reel, are we considered “behind the times” or rebels? I’m going with rebels, or maybe even…cool chicks. 🐥😎

📸 I just really love this little snapshot I took during my photo session today. Such a simple, insignificant moment in time, yet something about it deserves a permanent feed square!

In the beginning...

Spring, 2014: Bits of Imperfection began with a single handmade planter box and a spark of inspiration. After claiming a tiny collection of her husbands tools, stay-at-home momma, Heather, stumbled through the process of beginner's woodworking in the garage of their cozy Naperville duplex. During this process, she quickly realized her desire to achieve utter perfection was quite impossible - an unsettling revelation for one with perfectionist tendencies. Thus, all the knots, rough sawn surface blemishes, rogue wood grains, and other imperfect bits were embraced; even beautiful, maybe. As it happens, others found beauty in them too. The positive customer responses began to trickle in, and that little spark breathed a flame.

Since then, Bits of Imperfection has evolved and expanded well beyond wooden planters. We've honed our skills, developed new ones and have a perpetual will to find and create beauty. We are makers supporting makers, bringing you only our best.
