Historical Context:
This historical event in Exodus happened when the Israelites were trapped and terrorized, with the Egyptians behind them and the Red Sea before them. Their situation seemed impossible, and they were understandably filled with fear. However, God commanded them to "stand firm" and promised that He would deliver them.
God’s message to the Israelites remains relevant for us today. We all travel through life facing our own Red Seas, battling our personal Egyptians. We may feel trapped, cornered, defeated, and afraid. But by looking back at the deliverance of the Israelites, God reminds us to "be still" and have faith in His power, not our own.
Testimony:
Meet Bethany Hamilton, a professional surfer known worldwide for her courage. At the age of 13, while she was surfing in Kauai's North Shore, a 14-foot tiger shark attacked her, leaving her with a severed left arm. Most people would have given up after such a traumatic event, but not Bethany. Instead, she chose to trust in God's plan for her, drawing strength from scriptures like Jeremiah 29:11, which says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Just a month after the attack, Bethany was back in the water, chasing her dream with one arm. She continued her professional surfing career, winning national competitions, and even sharing her testimony and faith through various platforms like books, documentaries, and motivational speaking events.
God granted Bethany Hamilton victory over her challenges. Not only did she overcome her physical condition, but she also used her gifts to inspire people all over the world to trust in God amid adversities.
Key Lessons:
1. Stay firm amid trials
Troubles are inevitable in life, but they are temporary. Stay firm in your faith during these trials, just as the Israelites did at the Red Sea, and you will witness God's deliverance.
2. Let God fight for you

God is our Refuge
"The eternal God is your refuge," says Deuteronomy 33:27, "and underneath are the everlasting arms." And what does that mean? Obviously, the first part means that God, who is without beginning or end, will always be a refuge, one to whom you can turn in times of trouble or difficulty. But what does that second phrase, "underneath are the everlasting arms" really mean? "Underneath," says George Stormont, a British-born pastor now approaching his tenth decade, means "underneath". No matter how low you are, God will still be there beneath you, to support you and lift you up.
He is underneath your lowest emotions and your darkest night. What was the lowest point of your life? The day the doctor said you had a cancer? God made a promise. He’s the One who is honor-bound to keep His Word.
God will always be underneath your deepest loss. Beneath your loss is the firm hand of God, which can take the broken pieces of your life or business and put them back together again. God specializes in this sort of thing, and He’s had lots and lots of experience doing it, too.
Underneath your most shameful act the everlasting arms are still there to pick you up and to re-establish your feet. There is a big difference between discipline and punishment. Because God loves you, He allows the circumstances of life to discipline you, and then helps you to understand how you have gone astray, like the sheep Isaiah spoke of long ago. And then His strong hands–the ones which kept you from destruction–will pick you up, smooth away the hurt and pain, and help you get up on your feet again.
Maybe your most shameful act is something known only to yourself and to God. Or it’s possible that masses of people have read about it in the newspaper. Whether it be little or much, God’s grace covers the wrong, and His forgiveness will make the difference.
The promises of God are not reserved for a handful of saints ready for immediate promotion to heaven. The good news is that God plays no fav
