MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

Dandy Brewing and Blindman Brewing are very excited to be joining forces to get great beer to all you fine folks. After a decade of mutual respect, shared beers, amazing pizza & tacos, good friends and good times, both breweries are looking forward to working together. It's not a merger, nor is it a contract brewing arrangement; it's something new and kinda cool which hasn't been done before. Both the Dandy and Blindman teams are super invigorated and ready to rock-and-roll on this partnership and we can't wait to make some great things happen together.

So of course we had to do a collab together, and it was a very simple choice to play to both of our strengths and brew an IPA. Hops and beer are like bread and butter and we know our two little breweries will be a killer combo too.

Muddy York Brewing Co. is excited to announce updated plans to relocate to a new and dynamic space in Stouffville's west-end commercial area.

ICYMI, we spoke on this week and we split the tea... errr beer. Our relocation plans have been revised! Read the press release below:

[Stouffville, ON] – Muddy York Brewing Co. is excited to announce updated plans to relocate to a new and dynamic space in Stouffville's west-end commercial area. Following an announcement in August that the brewery would be expanding its East York operations to the historic old post office in Stouffville, unforeseen circumstances necessitated that the expansion become a relocation and the company made the strategic decision to acquire a prime Stouffville location at 50 Innovator Ave, Suite #1.

"We are excited about this positive shift for us," said Jeff Manol, Co-Owner at Muddy York Brewing Co. "The purchase of our commercial space at 50 Innovator Ave is not just a relocation; it represents a move towards independence. Recent challenges prompted us to seek a space where we can truly build our future without surprises and outside constraints. We are eager to reconstruct our production space, an inviting taproom, and introduce a casual food program for our patrons in the thriving Stouffville commercial district."

Despite the location change, Muddy York Brewing Co. assures its customers that its commitment to quality craft beer remains unwavering. The relocation allows for a fresh start and presents an exciting opportunity to serve the residents of Whitchurch-Stouffville and beyond. The opening date for the new location is still pending announcement, but Muddy York Brewing Co. expresses its continued enthusiasm for becoming an integral part of the Whitchurch-Stouffville community. Stay tuned for further updates on the grand opening and other exciting developments.

Beer Canada Trying to Stop New Alcohol Tax

In April of this year, beer aficionados may find their wallets a bit lighter as federal taxes on beer are slated to increase by 4.7 per cent, which could tack on an additional 20 cents to every case of 24 come April 1. The excise tax also applies to wine and spirits.

This impending hike is brewing discontent among both consumers and industry representatives.

The President of Beer Canada, CJ Helie, says the federal government imposed the automatic annual increase in 2017, tying it to mirror inflation numbers. But that was a time when inflation was relatively low, unlike now.

He says the hospitality industry is still trying to recover from two or three years of COVID and a subsequent spike in operating costs including a big jump in the price of barley.

There are about 20 brewers in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Packaging costs are up by 40 per cent, transportation costs have doubled, says Helie. He’s concerned that piling on more taxes will put some brewers out of business, not to mention bars and restaurants.

Beer Canada is calling on Ottawa to back off on the tax increase.

The Growler: So I guess the question then is what can people do to help in the short turn?

J: Honestly, it’s go out to small restaurants, go out to small businesses. And get a pint if you can. Go support your favorite craft breweries, the ones that you want to see around. I’m sure we’ll see more of this. We’ll see closures.

Sawback represents the origin of the Red Deer River, our city's water source.

Every brewery needs water, and every river has a story.

The Red Deer River's story begins in the Canadian Rockies on the Sawback Mountain Range.

That's where our water comes from, and that's what goes into our beer.
