The stalker: Part 2
I woke up to the scent of cologne. This is the same one that Thoriso used. I'm sure he is the one who slept besides me last night. Well, time for a cup of coffee to deal with this hungover on a Monday!
"Top of the morning, sis!"
"Morning kiddo. You are leaving already?"
"Yup! I have tutorials this afternoon around 2. I have to get back to res."
"Oh yeah! Better go on. Don't you ever miss your classes because…"
"Yadi yadi ya, fail and all. I got it sis. Besides, I'm only doing three modules this semester and I am done," he takes my coffee and drinks.
"Hey! Make one for yourself, man!"
"No time sis! My ride will be here in a few minutes!" He then grabs half of my sandwich.
"Better go now. Pretoria is about an half hour away. Unless you are taking a Gautrain you will get there faster."
"That's the plan. This Uber will take me to the parkstation and I will… score some nice babes there," I hit his head.
"Behave! You have a girlfriend, remember? The one you told me about."
"Oh Mikasa? She's my waifu," he blushed.
"What's that wena?"
"She's my anime wife. And the girlfriend I told you about."
"Anime? You mean those cartoons you like to watch like Naruto?"
"Hey! Anime is not cartoons wena! And I love her with all my heart. I will marry her one day!"
"I'm sorry. And how will you marry her when she is a car- I mean anime character?"
"I will buy a huge figurine and throw a whole wedding celebration! It will be the best wedding you were ever invited to!"
"What about those girls you were planning to check out on your ride?"
"Well, forget about them. I am loyal to Mikasa Ackerman! Soon to be Mikasa Moloyi! My dear Mikasa, I love you! I am coming babyyyy!!!!! The distance between you and I, will be closer than ever!!" He giggled.
"Wow, okay. Uhm… I wish you good luck with Mikasa," I said, trying not to sound freaked out.
"Thanks sis. It means a lot when you are supporting my love for Mikasa. I hope you be good to her when you meet her someday."
"Anytime. And one more thing, you were heavy on me last night. Go easy on me when you share the bed with me, will ya?" The 'ya' sounded weird coming from me since I usually speak formally.
"What do you mean? I was in my room the whole night."
"What? I guess I was dreaming."
The car beeped outside.
"Oh! That must be my ride! See you sis!"
"Call me when you get at res! Or send me a text!"
"Will do! Bye!"
"Bye!"
Thoriso lives in Pretoria, Hatfield close to his campus and I live in Johannesburg, Fourways. He studies Computer Sciences. We are both from Mamelodi. I feel bad for not accompanying him to the door but as long as he is alright. Ouch! This headache is too much now. I must try to eat spicy things now since they are quite effective with hangovers.

"What did I tell you, Layla? What did I say?"
"That you were suspicious of your client?"
"I told you that he hid something from me. And it was crucial to his defense. But you know what? If only he told me the truth, I would've anticipated that sneaky move from the prosecutor. But no matter, I am getting my chance. Thanks to that tactic I pulled to delay the conclusion of the case," I said.
"It's how you kept your head high throughout the case given how scary that prosecutor was," Layla commented.
"He pulled all sorts of dirty tactics to pressure my client. But he won't get away with this. I will make sure of this."
Layla is my secretary as of yesterday. Before I made partners with the firm, I was busy with a case so I need it to conclude. However, due to the dirty trick pulled by that prosecutor, I will have to find ways to defend my client given this new information about him that rose.
Layla and I were approaching the parking lot and had a small conversation there and there. Before I pressed my car key, I heard someone chanting in Isizulu. I signaled Layla to be quiet and hid behind the closest car. I saw the man - a sangoma sprinkling some water with a broom on a car and I heard him say something about the owner of the car getting into a car accident so that their sender can win the case. I took out my tablet and recorded the rest of the ceremony. You might think that just because I am an advocate, I don't believe in these things. Thing is - I saw supernatural things happen in court. There are things out there that are still beyond human understanding. I know one might ask - what about logic? But logic is limited to the knowledge that humans collected over years and what's logic now, may not be logic years to come hence I don't like limiting my understanding to the information that humans gathered. After the Sangoma left, I came out of hiding.
"Layla, did you see that? Who's car is that?"
"Yes. It's Thekgo's."
"Thekgo? No way! Layla, that Sangoma just did that so that he can be in a car accident so that his client's case would be postponed!"
"You lie! You mean to say he is using African Voodoo magic to harm Thekgo?"
"Yes. I know that you are white and all but…"
"I've seen things happen in court, Risper. Although I am white, I know how powerful African magic is."
"So what if the muthi is fake and I am just overreacting and Thekgo will be fine if he gets in that car?"
"No, what if the muthi is the real deal and Thekgo dies? Will you be able to live with yourself, Risper?"
I subconsciously touched the bracelet on my wrist that Thekgo gave to me yesterday.
I shook my head, "I don't have his numbers though. Do you?"
"No." Layla scrolled through our whatsapp group, "I don't see him in this group either. We will have to wait for him."
"Don't you have to fetch the kids from school? I will wait by myself."
"I will call their father to fetch them."
"You don't have to. I will wait for him. It may take a long time for him to finish today's court session."
"You may be a hotshot Advocate Risper but you are socially awkward around the male species. You sure will be alright with Thekgo?"
"Have some faith in me, will ya?" Okay, Thoriso is slowly rubbing off on me with his peasant language.
I accompanied Layla to her car.
"I will be fine, I promise."
"Okay. If you say so, Risper," she opens her car and enters.
She starts her car and I bid her farewell. She just smirked at me. I watched her drive out of the court until her car was out of sight. Now come to think of it, after I talk to Thekgo, I would have to go and buy a kota from one of the vendors outside this court. Took me a while to get used to the word "kota" since in my hometown, we use the word "sphatlo".
I sat in my car for what seemed like a long time and Thekgo with his black bag finally showed up. I immediately got out of the car. I don't know how to explain this to him but I better unlock my phone now so that I can show him the video. He was walking fast to his car and these pencil heels slowed me down.
"Mr Moeti! Mr Moeti! Mr Moeti!"
He waited as I approached him. Man, I was out of breath.
"I am sorry for this," I said as I tried to catch my breath.
"You would fall if you keep running on those heels," okay, he caught me off guard with his perfect English accent.
"I never knew you could speak in a perfect English accent."
"Ms Moloyi…"
"Yes. I just want to thank you for covering up for me when I was not feeling well last week."
"It's alright. I am always willing to help my colleagues."
"And one more thing, I wouldn't get in that car if I were you."
He laughed, "and what would the reason be?"
"A man in his late forties sprinkled muthi around your car. He was chanting in Isizulu and said something regarding you being involved in a car accident for the postponing of a case you must be busy with,' I must have sounded like a news reporter at that time.
He stared at me for a few seconds and bursted out in laughter. I soooo wanted to hit him on his chest but I am not used to him to that point.
"No, I am serious! I have a video of the man doing that," I scrolled through my apps and tapped on the gallery then the video, "you see! This is the man. Layla and I hid behind a 4×4 Range Rover that was there earlier."
He took the phone and watched the video till the end.
"How do I know that you did not fabricate the whole situation?" He said that in a Sotho accent.
I laughed because of the way he switched accents.
"Ms Moloyi." He said dead serious and I stopped laughing.
"No, I have no reason to do so."
"Then, please do not waste my time. I do not believe in such things. And if you don't have anything important to speak to me about, I would like to take my leave."
"Thekgo…"
He walked towards his car and I stood there like a cat that was poured with water. My anxiety started kicking in.
"Thekgo! I… I.."
"Whaaaaat?" He asked angrily.
"My phone?" I said in a squeaky voice.
He came towards me. He looked angry and annoyed. I extended my arm to reach for the phone and he grabbed my wrist.
"It looks beautiful on you," he smiled.
Oh yeah! I'm wearing the bracelet he gave me.
"I'm sorry for lashing at you earlier."
I nodded at his statement.
"I know you must be worried about me but I believe in God - I am a Christian. None of those things will prosper against me," he said and I nodded. He held my cheek and continued, "I hate worrying you. I don't want you to. Although it makes me happy that you are concerned about me. I will be alright, I promise."
"Okay, promise me you will be alright? Or at least pray over your car? Or something?"
"I will. Where are you going from here?"
"I want to buy a kota just outside the street."
"I will treat you to one. And anything else you want."
"Really? That's wonderful."
He bought me the most expensive kota available and ice cream. We had light conversations there and there and I got to know that he not only owns a successful tech company but also a farm. I also learnt that he loves a simple, quiet and comfortable life, fishing on weekends with his brother, loves going to nature reserves and enjoys reading. Hmm… okay. I hate reading, yes I am an advocate but I hate reading. I only read what's necessary for my cases. Otherwise, I enjoy binging on series and playing music on full blast in my apartment whenever I am free. I love Baccardi genre, Bolo house and also "Tsa manyalo". I do listen to hip hop occasionally but I just love songs that don't have too many lyrics to memorize. Just dance and chill on my balcony with cans of Strongbow or ciders since I can't handle bitter ones. I never really drink alcohol outside my apartment or home and surprisingly, I don't get drunk easily. Sometimes, my friends and a few neighbors come and chill with me and we even do an unplanned braai on the balcony and just enjoy each other's company. Well, he is a Christian and loves singing in church while I am traditional and believe in ancestors. I never really told him that since this is not the time for me to talk about this because this kota is sooo good that I want to cry. There's something about this Russian, polony, burger and garlic that makes the whole Kota tasty. There's also fish but I decided to eat it after I ate everything because it is the star of this dish. And the bread is fresh so I rate it a 11/10. Thekgo doesn't eat pork so he settled for fish n chips and two buns.
After we ate, we walked back to the parking lot.
"I really need to slow down on fats, I need to lose some of this weight if I need a hot boyfriend," I said.
"You must eat and not restrict yourself to impress others; besides, African men love fats around them edges," he replied.
"Haibow!" I laughed.
"It's getting late. This was fun. Thank you, Risper."
"No, thank you," I reached out for a hug and we hugged for a while then broke it, "well I must get going."
He nodded, "alright. I will see you tomorrow. Have a wonderful afternoon."
"Same to you."
I pressed my car keys, he opened the door of my car and I got in. I started driving and he watched my drive and I think it's until I disappeared in his sight. That was fun.
The next morning, I found out he was involved in a fatal car accident.
