Save our Little Free Library kiosk at Friendly Park
The Little Free Library (LFL) in Friendly Park has been used by thousands of neighbors & families who donate and borrow books. In 2007, FAN received an Office of Equity & Community Engagement Neighborhood Matching Grant to build the kiosk. Thanks to Rainbow Valley Construction, the south side of the kiosk (the bookshelf side) was repaired after the doors broke. However, now the door on the north side of the kiosk (the community bulletin board) has broken. This is the side where organizations post flyers and announcements of community events. Water has damaged this side so it is no longer usable. The roof also needs to be replaced. The LFL kiosk is the responsibility of FAN to maintain and if it isn’t repaired, the City will remove it as unsafe.
FAN Equity Action Team feels that the Little Free Library at Friendly Park is very important to our neighborhood and the entire community and needs to be preserved. As it says on the sign on the east side of the kiosk: A Literacy Friendly Neighborhood: We all do better when we all read better.
We have applied for a new Neighborhood Matching Grant for repairs and maintenance, with the goal of extending the life of the kiosk for another 10 years. We need your help to raise the matching funds to make this happen! Here are ways that you can help:
Shop at Friendly Street Market on Sat., Feb. 11 for the 5% Donation Day fundraiser they are hosting for us!
