Did you know it's illegal to trap wild hares in Ireland...UNLESS they are being used for hare coursing? This bloodsport has been banned in all bar THREE European Union countries, one of which is Ireland - a country that supposedly reveres hares in our mythology & folklore. Over 5,000 hares are trapped every year, many dying and all being subject to abuse. There's almost 80 hare coursing groups on the island. Admist a biodiversity crisis, this shouldn't continue, and morally, it should never have started.
The National Animal Rights Association in Ireland has helped in successfully banning fur farming on this Ireland, now they're working on banning hare coursing. A bill is going to be proposed in the Dáil, we need you to ask your TDs to support this bill. For more information and how to help, visit https://www.naracampaigns.org/hare-coursing/

Making Secind Hand Clothes Visible
Episode 58 is up and out the door since yesterday. I chatted to Laragh McCann from Climate Love Ireland and 100% ReLoved about her journey from modeling to activism. I live this leaf though, of wearing a beautiful pin to highlight second hand clothes we wear!

Ditching Disposable Cups for Reuseable & Ceramic
I'm WAY behind on podcast editing from protest planning taking it out of me 🥵 So FINALLY, here is an excerpt from #53 with Sorcha from Conscious Cup Campaign. This was a lovely hopeful episode, and an important reminder that most cafés are back accepting reusables! And ceramics are back 😭 And to find out that this campaign was created by some members of Zero Waste Ireland was just so lovely. If you're in Ireland and not in that group, I definitely recommend joining it, or any Zero Waste Facebook group for your locality. Social media is a minefield but groups of like-minded people are where it's at <3
Don't forget to check out their website on how to involve your café whether you're staff or a customer: https://consciouscup.ie/
A cup may be small, but it's the start of a mighty journey 💚

In episode 51 I got to talk about something I love so so much; theatre! Art is what we need to bridge the gap that scientific language can create. Art also provokes an emotional reaction and in a world where empathy is lacking, I think we need to make apathetic people a little more emotional about this...what do you think?
Anyway, have a listen to episode 51 with Eva O'Connor and Hildegard Ryan who also have a dark comedy play streaming as part of the fringe festival, check it out: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/afloat-by-eva-o-connor-and-hildegard-ryan

Theresa Rose Sebastian
For episode 50 (yes, 50! Can I get a woop woop?! 🥳) I interviewed 17 year old social & climate justice activist and fellow The Climate Ambassador Programme member Theresa Rose Sebastian.
We talked about the climate crisis in India but also about empowering women and young people across the globe. We also touched on the MANY projects she's working on like ReEarth.org, Climate Assembly Eire and Able2Change.
In a week when RTÉ News admitted they have been neglecting their duty by not covering the climate crisis as they should, conversations like this one, highlighting what the media has been omitting from #MAPA are crucial. Imagine 2 cyclones happening within 2 weeks of each other and being shrouded in the news by a politician's golf trips?! Well you don't have to imagine. We need to hold the media accountable and keep sharing the stories of those being erased or spoken over.

#48 - A Look Inside
A look inside one of the 240 commercial pig farms in Ireland. Before you listen to the newest episode, make sure you catch up on episode 47 with vet Niamh Cassidy. Find it on your podcast platform here: https://wavve.link/bookofleaves
I'm inviting/asking you to listen to the injustice, please. Make *informed* decisions. I'm very grateful to Niamh for sharing her experiences with me. This is one snippet shared from Niamh's 3 day work experience on a pig farm - yes, only 3 days! My brain can't comprehend the scale at which this happens nor how complicit we are in supporting it. Just the other day, a pig farmer told the nation on national radio how he cared for his pigs, while they're sent off to slaughter at only 5 months.
According to Teagsc there are roughly 1.6million pigs being farmed in Ireland at any one time. That's 1.6milllion lives not seeing the light of day, seeing 'monsters' around them every day, being fed antibiotics and tons of feed from land we desperately need for carbon and biodiversity restoration. This is Ireland. This is your bacon, your ham, your pepperoni, your sausages, your pudding ( - all of which are also class 1 carcinogens, just like tobacco, another thing the pig meat industry will fight to hide from you).
I hesitate talking about veganism or animal rights here so much, unlike human rights, as I don't want to upset or anger anyone, but what people really need to be angry about is this. It's not OK on any level, and taste is not a good enough justification if you live in Ireland. You can buy vegan sausages, rashers and even pudding, and the taste is pretty damn good. You won't be supporting this horrific cruelty and the environment is spared the plundering of more resources.
If your food needs a graphic warning, make sure you know what's behind the warning before you eat it. Or eat plants. Stop this sh*t. Stop. Eating. Pigs. Please.
While you're here, please sign this petition to stop the construction of another industrial pig 'farm
#43 What carrie Ann Moran thinks of Trends
This day 8 years ago, the Rana Plaza building in Dhaka collapsed, killing 1,134 people and injuring 2,500. Among the wreckage was strewn clothes and fabric, branded with tags from clothing companies whose shops everyone in Ireland has frequented at some point. It wasn't the first time garment workers died due to unsafe working conditions, and it hasn't been the last. This disaster sparked Fashion Revolution, an on-going campaign to bring transparency into the clothing supply chain and ensure fair working conditions and worker's rights for all.
To open season 3 and as part of Fashion Revolution week, I interviewed Carrie Ann Moran to talk about her own journey in the fashion industry and how we as consumers can have an impact. There is SO MUCH wrong with this industry on every level from the horrific ways the people sew your garments are treated, to the hold the industry has over what it means to be 'fashionable' i.e. clothes having a sell-by date. That's not even touching on the immense pollution of the industry. So, a revolution is direly needed. To find out how to get involved with the revolution (which is everyday, not just this week!) check out their website: https://www.fashionrevolution.org/
It's available on all podcast providers to listen to, or on YouTube.
