The Greater Chennai Traffic Police have installed radar-based speed display boards on Kamarajar Salai to control over speeding. This has been done on a trial basis on the Kamarajar Salai considered to be a VIP route.
Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), inspected the working of the two display boards on the arterial road on Wednesday.
Mr. Saratkar said the radar-based speed display board has been modelled on the hand-held speed gun but has more accuracy in detecting the speed of the vehicles plying on the road. The advantage of the system is the traffic police can fix the minimum speed and based on it, the board will display in red, green and orange. The speed display board would play a role in creating an awareness among motorists to know the speed limit and curb over speeding.
Mr. Saratkar said the speed display boards would be adopted by the traffic police after arriving at the cost and its efficacy in preventing over speeding.
Based on the feedback, the police are planning to integrate it with the challan system of levying fine for over speeding vehicles for which technical study is under progress. The police have proposed to expand the speed display board project to important arterial roads in phases

40-year-old Paramasivam from Madurai is working as Sub-Inspector at Pennalurpettai police station.
In the video, Sub-Inspector Paramasivam can be seen addressing parents from the Thideer Nagar region, where 40 tribal families rely on farm labour to survive.
Paramasivam, who was made aware that some of the families were attempting to involve their children in fake labour, implored parents to send their kids to school, promising to assist them in any way he could.
If you need any kind of help or need money for food, come to the police station. I’m ready to help. But please send children to schools. Now, they are given eggs all five days and food. I’m ready to fall on anyone's legs too to help you. Please send the children to school", said Paramasivam. He also reminded parents of the Sarah Sikshq Abhyan scheme, which mandates that children up to 14 years of age must attend school. Soon, waiting time for motorists at 302 traffic signals across Chennai could reduce significantly, with Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) all set to spend over Rs 15 crore to control busy junctions through remote control technology. At present, traffic signals can be changed only in a cyclical direction. “Earlier, motorists had to wait for their turn as the signals were operated manually. Now everything is inour hands. The remote controls are designed in such a way that it appears more like a car key. The cops who stand in the middle of the road will be visible to the motorists, who will exercise caution before violating a traffic rule,” said assistant commissioner of police, traffi c planning, A Ganesh Kumar. R Jayaprakash, a resident-activist from Adyar said that the new measure would be helpful if police can increase the timing allotted for pedestrians to cross roads. A teaser from Vijay TV’s upcoming serial ‘Thendral Vanthu Ennai Thodum’ was condemned by many including SP Varun Kumar, who pointed out the state’s laws on harassment of women. Several users took to Twitter to express their objections and condemn the video. Sharing the clip, Kavitha Muralidharan, an independent journalist, tweeted: “Tamil serials and their toxicity.” In response to Kavitha’s tweet, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvallur, Dr Varun Kumar IPS, pointed out how the video contradicts the law by highlighting that Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act prohibits harassment of women within the premises of places of worship. “Whoever commits or participates in or abets harassment of woman in or within the precincts of any educational institution, temple or other place of worship, bus stop, road, railway station, cinema theater, park, beach, place of festival, public service vehicle or vessel or any other place shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and with fine which shall not be less than ten thousand rupees,” Dr Varun Kumar IPS posted. #PolimerNews #tamilnadupolicefans #spvarunkumar #IPS #Thiruvallur #District , #SP #TamilNaduPolice
